Milton (Ga.) football to defend 5A title against tough schedule this fall

Milton football continues to establish itself as one of the best in the state of Georgia. The Eagles conquered 5A last season and finished as the No. 4 team in the nation, according to the On3 Composite Rankings.
Now looking for its third consecutive state title, Milton is gearing up for another big campaign, which will feature games against plenty of tough opposition in the Peach State. Last month, it released its 2025 schedule.
Led by head coach Ben Reaves Jr., Milton will once again open the season against Buford, another elite Georgia program. The Eagles won their season-opener over the Wolves last year in a 13-10 slog at home. Buford went on to win 12 of its next 13 games, finished as the No. 4 team in the state and will now be the home team in 2025.
That’s the start of a three-game road trip to kick off the year for Milton. From there, it’ll make its lone trip out of the state and head to Florida to take on The First Academy in Orlando. The Eagles then head to Alpharetta to take on the Raiders, who won just once in 2024.
The home opener is set for Sept. 12 against Blessed Trinity, which finished as the No. 19 team in the state last season. After playing at Chattahoochee the following week, the Eagles then play their final three home games in a row against Seckinger, Lanier and Gainesville, last season’s No. 17 team in the state.

Following a bye, two more road games — at Johns Creek and Roswell — will close out the regular season. Roswell won nine games last season and finished as the No. 15 team in the state.
Coming off a 15-0 season in 2024, Milton averaged over 43 points per game and allowed two touchdowns or less in 10 of its wins. The Eagles will have plenty of production to replace, though, as eight seniors have departed to SEC or ACC programs, including quarterback Luke Nickel (Miami), wide receiver CJ Wiley (Georgia), tight end Ethan Barbour (Georgia), offensive tackle Brayden Jacobs (Clemson) and cornerback Dylan Lewis (Tennessee).
