Six weeks are gone in the Minnesota high school football season, and undefeated Maple Grove remains atop the rankings.

There are a handful of schools vying for that top spot before the playoffs begin in a few weeks though, and On3 has the updated top-25 rankings for the state below:

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Maple Grove (5-0)

The Crimson remain atop the rankings after back-to-back top-25 wins over Anoka Senior and Blaine before a bye week over the weekend. They’re back at home Thursday against St. Michael-Albertville before a huge top-5 showdown at Minnetonka on October 17.

2. Shakopee (5-1)

After its first loss of the season to Minnetonka last week, Shakopee responded in a huge way by walloping No. 5 Edina 42-12 in a major upset, per the On3 Massey Ratings. Winless Rosemount is next on the schedule for a road test at No. 16 Blaine in two weeks.

3. Minnetonka (5-1)

The Skipper are coming off their first setback of the year after falling in a 21-20 heartbreaker to Eden Prairie over the weekend. They already have four top-25 wins on the season though, and after taking on 5-1 Buffalo Senior, they’ll get a chance at another with No. 1 Maple Grove coming to town.

4. Lakeville North (6-0)

North remains among the state’s undefeated teams after consecutive wins over No. 13 Eagan (36-33) and Mayo Senior (24-13). Back home this week, they’ll host a 4-3 East Ridge team looking to pull off the upset.

5. Edina (4-2)

The Hornets will be looking to get things back on track after being routed 42-12 by Shakopee on the road Friday night. They still remain among the state’s top teams though with No. 24 Stillwater coming to town this week.

6. Alexandria Area (6-0)

Another undefeated squad after six weeks in Alexandria, which has yet to truly be tested this season. The Cardinals’ defense has been dominant, holding each of their opponents under 17 points. After routing Bemidji Senior over the weekend, they will get their biggest test to date against No. 8 Moorhead.

7. Eden Prairie (3-3)

The Eagles have had a brutally tough schedule to start the season, five top-15 teams in their first six games. After defeats at the hands of No. 2 Shakopee and No. 9 Wayzata, they’re back to .500 following a big win over Minnetonka.

8. Moorhead (6-0)

Moorhead is unblemished after six weeks, having blown out its last three opponents by a combined score of 157-37. But a huge matchup awaits this weekend when they travel to face No. 6 Alexandria in their only top-25 game of the season.

9. Wayzata (2-4)

Much like Eden Prairie, Wayzata has had one heck of a tough start to their schedule. Each of their six games this season has come against a state top-25 opponent, with wins over Lakeville South and Eden Prairie, as well as losses to No. 3 Minnetonka, No. 2 Shakopee, No. 5 Edina and No. 15 Prior Lake.

10. Andover (5-1)

The Huskies have reeled off five straight wins after a season-opening loss to St. Thomas Academy. That includes a top-25 victory over Elk River, as well as recent wins over Spring Lake Park and St. Francis. Now their attention turns to Sauk-Rapids Rice, who they’ll travel to face on Friday night.
