Mississippi High School Football Games of the Week: September 5-7
Brandon, Madison Central and Louisville each won top-10 games last week while Oak Grove, West Jones, Clinton and Germantown also picked up ranked wins. Week two of Mississippi high school football has some intriguing matchups of its own.
This week’s slate features a marquee showdown between top-ranked Madison Central and No. 2 Brandon.

Top high school football games in Mississippi
#1 Madison Central at #2 Brandon — Friday. Sept. 6
Madison Central opened the season in style with a 27-20 top-10 win over Ocean Springs. Ocean Springs shut out Madison Central for nearly the entire first half — until Madison Central running back Glen Singleton rattled off four consecutive rushing touchdowns. Brandon featured in another Mississippi top-10 game in week one, thrashing then-No. 7 Picayune Memorial 60-34. Star junior defensive back Preston Ashley recorded a 45-yard scoop-and-score touchdown, Logan Drummond returned a punt 61 yards to the house and Trey McQueen returned an interception 38 yards for a score in a night filled with unconventional scoring for the Bulldogs. Madison Central won last year’s matchup with Brandon 40-26.
#20 West Point at #3 Starkville — Friday, Sept. 6
West Point lost a heartbreaker to Louisville in a top-10 game last Friday. Louisville scored the only points of the second half — a 21-yard field goal to put the Wildcats on top. Starkville took down Noxubee County 43-22 in week one. Tyson Knox picked off Mississippi State commit KaMario Taylor on Starkville’s own 1-yard line to keep the Yellowjackets’ 14-point lead in the second half. Two plays later, quarterback Jaylen Ruffin hit Jaheim Deanes for a 97-yard touchdown. Starkville won on the road at West Point last season by a score of 39-28.
#11 Ocean Springs at #4 Oak Grove — Friday, Sept. 6
Ocean Springs put up a heck of a fight against top-ranked Madison Central last week but fell 27-20. The Greyhounds managed to shut out Madison Central for almost the entire first half until running back Glen Singleton ran for four scores. Oak Grove won its game over No. 15 Grenada 38-24. Oak Grove quarterback Kellon Hall was 19-of-27 passing for 306 yards with a touchdown.

#22 South Panola at #9 Oxford — Friday, Sept. 6
South Panola lost to Germantown (Tenn.) 21-14 in week one. Anderrious Flowers led the team in rushing with 81 yards. Oxford beat Lafayette 45-0 in the ‘Crosstown Classic’ last week. All six of the Chargers’ touchdowns came on the ground. Oxford beat South Panola 31-14 in 2023.
#13 Pearl at #24 Warren Central — Friday, Sept. 6
Pearl won a tough season-opener 26-20 over Neshoba Central, new Pirates head coach Patrick Schooler’s former team. Pearl jumped out to a 19-0 lead before Neshoba got on the board. Warren Central was on the flip side of a 26-20 scoreboard in its week one loss to Clinton. Vikings quarterback Nash Morgan was 20-of-30 passing for 243 yards and also caught a touchdown pass on a trick play. Pearl took last year’s game against Warren Central 25-24 in overtime.
#25 Gautier at #21 D’Iberville — Friday, Sept. 6
Guatier jumped out to a 1-0 record last week with a close 26-23 win over Harrison Central. Running back Trey Irving ran for the winning touchdown in overtime while Fred Nicholson recorded 10 tackles and two interceptions. D’Iberville beat Columbia 51-15 in week one. Sophomore Jaylen Johnson caught 12 passes for 90 yards and three touchdowns. Gautier won last season 41-20 over D’Iberville.
