Mississippi High School Football Rankings

The Mississippi high school football rankings have updated after an exciting weekend of games in the Magnolia State.

Tupelo, Brandon, Clinton, Jackson Prep and Northwest Rankin all picked up ranked wins in a loaded Friday night slate.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

Below are the updated top 25 teams in the Mississippi On3 Massey Ratings, as of Oct. 21.

1. Tupelo

Tupelo stayed undefeated with a 27-7 win over No. 20 Germantown on Friday. The Golden Wave will be tested against this week in a ranked clash with No. 12 Clinton before heading to No. 7 Starkville the following week. The Golden Wave have notable wins over No. 23 Oxford, No. 19 West Point and No. 3 Madison Central.

2. Brandon

Brandon took down No. 8 Oak Grove in a battle of top-10 teams last Friday, winning 31-27 over the Warriors. The Bulldogs have put together an impressive resume consisting of wins against No. 19 West Point, No. 13 Picayune, No. 3 Madison Central, No. 17 Warren Central, No. 15 Gulfport and No. 22 Petal. The Bulldogs still have No. 14 Northwest Rankin on the schedule, but this week will host Pearl.

3. Madison Central

Madison Central is 5-2 after handling Murrah 27-6 over the weekend. This week, the Jaguars will host No. 20 Germantown. On the season, Madison Central has wins over No. 21 Ocean Springs, No. 15 Gulfport, No. 14 Northwest Rankin and No. 17 Warren Central — and losses to No. 2 Brandon and No. 1 Tupelo.

4. Jackson Prep (+2)

Jackson Prep keeps on rolling, now 9-0 on the season after a huge road win at No. 16 Hartfield. The Patriots were the higher-ranked team going in but slight Massey Ratings underdogs. Jackson defeated Hartfield 51-45. Up next is a top-10 matchup with No. 6 Madison-Ridgeland.

5. Grenada

Grenada still has just one loss on the season after dismantling Olive Branch 42-0 on Friday. The Chargers lost to No. 8 Oak Grove to open the season but have since rattled off eight consecutive wins. Center Hill comes to town this Friday.

6. Madison-Ridgeland Academy (+1)

Madison-Ridgeland improved to 7-1 after beating Jackson Academy 24-14 on the road. The Patriots have lost to just Pulaski Academy (Ark.) this year while collecting wins against No. 8 Oak Grove and No. 16 Hartfield Academy. As we mentioned above, Madison-Ridgeland has a huge game on deck on the road at No. 4 Jackson Prep.

7. Starkville (-3)

Starkville was upset by Clinton over the weekend, falling for the second time this season. The Yellowjackets will look to bounce back in a top-10 clash in two weeks against No. 3 Madison Central. In the meantime, they have a week to rest and regroup.
