High school basketball is in full swing as all programs embark on their quest for championship glory. While thousands of teams compete, the elite squads based on the On3 Composite Rankings will gain the most attention. Here is the National Top 25 Preseason Ranking as of Dec. 11.

Seven of the top 25 teams are from California, while four are from Florida. Arizona and Texas have two apiece. District of Columbia, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Utah, and Virginia have one each.

The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Rankings is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.

1. Grayson

After winning their first six games, the Rams are the nation’s top team, defeating Tri-Cities, Milton, Cedar Grove, Combine Academy, and Heritage. Meanwhile, Grayson remained undefeated after a 77-68 victory over Wheeler. Jacob Wilkins led the Rams with 23 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and four blocks. KJ Garris added 20 points and eight rebounds, while Caleb Holt had 15 points and five boards. Grayson will try to extend their winning streak against Loganville Christian Academy on Dec. 10.

2. Harvard Westlake

The Wolverines maintained their undefeated record after a dominating 83-51 victory over Long Beach Poly. Joe Sterling led Harvard-Westlake with 19 points, Nikolas Khamenia added 18, and Dominique Bentho finished with 14. The Wolverines will target their ninth consecutive victory in their Dec. 13 game against Bartlett.

3. Paul VI Catholic

After losing to Sidwell Friends, the Panthers earned back-to-back victories against IMG Academy and Pope John Paul the Great Catholic. Against the Ascenders, Adlan Elamin had 11 points and four rebounds to maintain their edge against one of high school basketball’s top teams. Paul VI Catholic will aim for their third consecutive victory against St. Mary’s Ryken on Dec. 14.

4. Perry

The Pumas are Arizona’s top team after blitzing to a 7-0 record. Perry retained its unblemished record after a 73-49 victory over Cesar Chavez. Before that victory, they also defeated Central Catholic, Corona Del Sol, Deer Vally, Williams Field, Higley, and San Tan Charter. As a sign of their dominance, all their victories were by double digits. The Pumas will try to retain their perfect record when they face Dobson on Dec. 12.

5. St. John Bosco

The Braves remained undefeated following their 88-75 victory over St. Pius X—St. Matthias Academy. Elize Harrington dominated the Warriors, going 13 of 16 from the field for 41 points and five assists. Chris Komin added 17 points and four steals as St. John Bosco earned their sixth victory at home. The Braves will try to extend their winning streak against Orange Lutheran on Dec. 19.

6. Columbus

The Explorers emerged victorious in triple overtime over Gonzaga 85-79. Cameron Boozer led the way with 31 points, including a three-pointer that sent the game to a third extension. His brother, Cayden Boozer, added 22 points and eight assists. Columbus aims to extend their winning streak when they face Edgewater on Dec. 12.

7. Oak Ridge

The Pioneers defeated Evans, as Jalen Reece led the way with 22 points and ten assists. Except for their loss to Gonzaga, Oak Ridge has done well to start the 2024-25 high school basketball season, defeating Olympia, Oviedo, Faith Family Academy, and Lake Nona. The Pioneers are looking to start another winning streak when they face Bishop McNamara on Dec. 19.

8. William J. Brennan

Despite losing back-to-back games to St. Johns College and DeMatha Catholic, the Bears are still among the best teams in high school basketball. In their 11 victories, only three were by single digits. William J. Brennan can bounce back against O’Connor on Dec. 13.

9. Notre Dame

While the Knights scored a season-low 75 points against Village Christian, it was still enough to defeat the Crusaders. It’s also the smallest margin of victory for Notre Dame in their first six games (ten points). However, those numbers should not diminish the Knights’ place among the high school basketball elite. Notre Dame can keep their winning streak by defeating Mater Dei Catholic on Dec. 11.

10. Roosevelt

The Mustangs bounced back after a three-point loss to William J. Brennan. In addition to beating Poly (70-56), they outclassed Norco, 110-31, to earn their sixth victory in seven games. Brayden Burries led Roosevelt with 33 points, while Myles Walker and Issac Williamson contributed 16 and 14 points. The Mustangs hope to carry the momentum from the Norco game to their showdown against Inglewood on Dec. 13.
