The Montverde Academy Eagles compete against the Archbishop Carroll Patriots in the first round of the 51st annual City of Palms Classic at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Fla., on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024. Montverde Academy won 96-77.

High school basketball season is in full swing across the country, and the latest Massey Rankings have been updated to reflect the most recent results.

National powerhouse Montverde Academy sits at No. 1 despite a tough-fought defeat last week, but there are a few schools that are right on their heels for the top spot.

Below are the top 25 teams, according to the Massey Ratings.

1. Montverde Academy (Fla.)

The Eagles are coming off a 59-57 loss to Sunshine State powerhouse Columbus (Fla.) last week, but have otherwise been pretty dominant outside of a loss to Brewster Academy. They’ll return to action Jan. 6 against Southeastern Prep Academy out of Orlando.

2. Columbus (Fla.)

Led by Duke signee Cameron and Cayden Boozer, the Explorers have played a gauntlet of a schedule early this season. After their win over Montverde, they faced two other top-25 opponents in Link Academy (Mo.) and Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.). They dropped both of those contests at the Jordan Holiday Classic and will be looking to get rebooted in the new year.

3. Allen (Texas)

The Eagles, who began their season in early November, are already off to an 18-1 start with their lone loss coming to San Antonio Brennan in overtime last month. They’re again the class of Texas high school basketball and will be looking to take a state title home in March after falling short last year.

4. St. John Bosco (Calif.)

After dropping a 56-55 heartbreaker to Roosevelt (Calif.) on Monday, the Braves drop to 14-1 on the year. They’ll look to rebound quickly against Phoenix O’Connor on Thursday, though.

5. Grayson (Ga.)

Traditionally known as a football powerhouse, the Rams are equally as dominant on the hardwood so far this year. Their only loss came at the hands of Columbus (Fla.) and the Boozer twins, but they’ve won two in a row since then.

6. Perry (Ariz.)

Off to an 11-0 start, the Wildcats are the top team in Arizona again this year after taking home a state title last season. Five-Star Plus+ power forward Koa Peat highlights a talented roster for Perry.

7. Gonzaga (D.C.)

The Eagles have been as impressive as any team in the country thus far, with a recent win over national powerhouse La Lumiere (Ind.) as the latest example. Gonzaga has also topped top-30 Oak Ridge (Fla.) and took Columbus (Fla.) to three overtimes before falling 85-79.

8. Dynamic Prep (Texas)

An Irving-based private school that only offers basketball programs, Dynamic has become one of the top prep teams in the country. They notched an impressive 75-56 victory over Bishop McNamara earlier this week. Jacobe Coleman, four-star center Jaden Toombs and four-star small forward Jermaine O’Neal Jr. lead a roster coached by former NBA All-Star Jermaine O’Neal.

9. Harvard-Westlake (Calif.)

The Wolverines are off to a 15-1 start this season behind the stellar play of Duke signee and top-25 prospect Nikolas Khamenia. They’ll face their biggest test to date on Thursday when they face off against Perry (Ariz.).

10. Wisconsin Lutheran

Lutheran, the alma mater of Duke star freshman Kon Knueppel, is off to an undefeated 8-0 campaign after consecutive blowout wins last week. They went 30-0 last season en route to a state title and will be looking to do the same again this year.
