Below are the top 25 high school football programs, according to the recently released On3 Composite.
The On3 Composite High School Football Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.
1. Mater Dei (Calif.)
Perennial powerhouse Mater Dei just keeps rolling along in 2024. The Monarchs cruised to a 9-0 record in the regular season, beating up on a stout schedule that featured the likes of Bishop Gorman (Nev.), St. Frances Academy (Md.) and St. John Bosco (Calif.). Then in the first two rounds of the CIF Southern Section Championships, Mater Dei took down Sierra Canyon 33-13 and Centennial 36-7. Up next is a clash with the nation’s No. 4 squad — St. John Bosco.
2. Duncanville (Texas)
Behind the explosive five-star combination of quarterback Keelon Russell and wide receiver Dakorien Moore, Duncanville went 10-0 in the regular season, averaging over 44 points per game. The Panthers own a pair of big wins over St. Frances Academy (Md.) and DeSoto (Texas). They’ve checked in as the top team in Texas all year and are now gunning for their third consecutive 6A state title. Duncanville hammered Temple and Rockwall in the first two rounds of the postseason. It will now face The Woodlands this coming Saturday.
3. Bishop Gorman (Nev.)
The lone blemish on Bishop Gorman’s 2024 résumé is an early-season loss to top-ranked Mater Dei. Otherwise, the Gaels have once again been dominant, picking up wins over the likes of St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) and Orange Lutheran (Calif.) while also continuing to bully their competition in Nevada. They’ll look for their fourth consecutive 5A state title this month, needing to win just two games to do so. After clocking state No. 3 Liberty 49-3 on Nov. 15, Gorman will face No. 2 Arbor View for the state title on Tuesday.
4. St. John Bosco (Calif.)
The Braves dealt with a change at quarterback late in the season and have only lost to No. 1 Mater Dei thus far. While very young, Bosco still possesses a roster loaded with college prospects. Chasing their third CIF state championship since 2019, the Braves escaped Santa Margarita Catholic with a 31-29 win before sneaking past Orange Lutheran 20-17. Bosco is set for a rematch with top-ranked Mater Dei this Friday.
5. North Crowley (Texas)
Another top contender amidst the 6A powers in Texas, North Crowley is 12-0 with its marquee victory being a 57-51 victory over DeSoto in early September. That win — which was viewed as a big upset at the time — set the tone for the Panthers, who have since rolled through their schedule. The North Crowley offense eclipsed 50 points eight times during the regular season and did again in a 56-21 rout of Byron Nelson in the bi-district round. After a 72-14 thrashing of Permian, North Crowley is set to play Coppell this coming Saturday.
6. North Shore (Texas)
North Shore has boasted one of the nation’s top defenses this season. The Mustangs, led by the nation’s top-ranked cornerback Devin Sanchez, have held opposing offenses to an average of under 11 points per game. They picked up a pair of quality wins down the stretch this fall, defeating nationally-ranked in-state Atascocita and Summer Creek in the span of three weeks. They opened their quest for a state title with a 56-13 rout of Deer Park and defeated Ridge Point 44-28. A showdown with Katy is on deck.
7. Milton (Ga.)
Milton possesses a prospect-heavy offense, led by quarterback Luke Nickel, wide receiver CJ Wiley and the tight end duo of Ethan Barbour and Ryan Ghea. The Eagles scored 35-plus points in eight of their 10 regular-season victories and are still yet to lose as they chase a 5A state championship. The Eagles beat Woodstock and Dutchtown to open the playoffs and will now square off with Houston County this weekend.

8. Carrollton (Ga.)
One of the favorites to win the Georgia 6A state title, Carrollton is 12-0 and has cemented itself as one of the nation’s top teams this season. Star quarterback Julian Lewis is poised to finish his high school career with hardware and he has the Trojans’ offense humming. The Trojans put up at least 46 points in its first two blowout postseason wins and will now play 11-1 Hillgrove.
9. Buford (Ga.)
Loaded with several Power 4 prospects the likes of Bryce Perry-Wright and Jadon Perlotte, Buford’s defense has struck fear into opposing offense after opposing offense this season. The Wolves have given up double-digit points just once since mid-September. They won their postseason games against East Coweta and Lowndes 57-9 and 42-7, respectively. This week, Buford will try to shut down an undefeated North Gwinnett.
10. Archbishop Spalding (Md.)
Archbishop Spalding is once again the class of Maryland high school football. The Cavaliers dominated McDonogh School 31-7 on Nov. 16 to win another Class A state title and finish with a perfect 12-0 2024 campaign.
