The 2024 high school football season is officially underway as multiple states had games commence last week. As a result, there was movement in the On3 Massey Ratings top 25.

Bishop Gorman collected a top-25 win over Kahuku, while Corner Canyon and Colquitt County, the preseason No. 1 teams in Utah and Georgia, cruised to season-opening victories. Sierra Canyon is one of two new additions to the rankings following a big road win over Punahou in Hawaii.

Another chunk of the nation will get going in the coming days — and multiple must-watch games are on the docket for this weekend. Below is the updated On3 Massey Ratings top 25, as of Aug. 19.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

*Win-Loss records are 0-0 unless noted otherwise.

1. Mater Dei – Calif.

Mater Dei is set to begin its season at home on Thursday in a big-time in-state clash against No. 12 Centennial. Led by the likes of Alabama four-star cornerback commit Chuck McDonald, Oregon four-star running back commit Jordon Davison and 2026 Ohio State Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver commit Chris Henry Jr., the Monarchs are once again heavy favorites to land another state title. Texas A&M five-star quarterback commit Husan Longstreet is reportedly a game-time decision for the Huskies, will look to play early-season spoiler at the Santa Ana Bowl.

2. Duncanville – Texas

The state of Texas remains idle this week, but anticipation is building for the final week of August. Duncanville is coming off its first ever back-to-back state title run and is eyeing a three-peat. The Panthers don’t begin their regular season until Sept. 6 when they head to South Oak Cliff (Texas). Oregon Five-Star Plus+ WR commit Dakorien Moore and Alabama five-star quarterback commit Keelon Russell will be perhaps the most dynamic duo in the nation this fall.

3. DeSoto – Texas

After going undefeated in 2023 and also claiming a second consecutive state title, DeSoto will begin its regular season on Aug. 31, taking on Creekside (Ga.). Texas A&M four-star running back pledge Deondrae Riden, the nation’s No. 17 RB, and SMU 4-star WR commit Daylon Singleton, headline DeSoto’s offense.

4. Southlake Carroll – Texas

The Dragons will open their 2024 season on Aug. 30 at home against Midland. Carroll will also boast a potent offense, headed by Tennessee 4-star tight end commit Jack Van Dorselaer, USC three-star running back commit Riley Wormley and 2026 TCU four-star WR pledge Brock Boyd. Carroll is one of just three schools in the top five for both offensive and defensive power in the Massey Ratings.

5. St. John Bosco – Calif.

St. John Bosco heads to Florida to take part in the ESPN High School Football Kickoff against No. 16 Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.). The giant matchup is set for 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 24 at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The Braves have once again reloaded and will be led by the likes of 2026 four-star athlete Madden Williams, 2026 USC three-star ATH commit Joshua Holland and 2026 Arkansas three-star safety commit Tay Lockett this weekend in the Sunshine State.

6. North Shore – Texas

Still searching for its first championship since 2021, the Mustangs will be led by Ohio State Five-Star Plus+ CB commit Devin Sanchez, the No. 5 prospect in the 2025 cycle. LSU 4-star LB commit Charles Ross and Colorado four-star WR commit Quanell Farrakhan Jr. also highlight the class as top blue-chippers. North Shore begins the season at home against South Oak Cliff on Aug. 30.

7. Bishop Gorman – Nev. (1-0)

The Gaels overpowered Kahuku, the No. 1 team in Hawaii, en route to a 33-7 victory last week. Junior four-star athlete Jett Washington impressed with a pair of interceptions, leading Bishop Gorman’s dominant defense. A tougher test awaits this weekend, as the Gaels are also heading to Florida to participate in the ESPN High School Football Kickoff, taking on the host school, No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas, at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.

8. Atascocita – Texas

Projected to have one of the nation’s top defenses, the Eagles will battle the best of the best in Texas this season after winning 11 games a season ago. Led by Oklahoma four-star running back commit Tory Blaylock on offense, Atascocita begins its season on Aug. 30 at home against Houston Lamar.

9. IMG Academy – Fla.

The Florida powerhouse isn’t taking part in the national festivities in its home state, as a trip to Utah awaits instead. IMG Academy will head to Draper to take on No. 11 Corner Canyon in another massive showcase. The No. 1 team in the Beehive State, Corner Canyon put up 70 points in its season-opening win last week. IMG’s roster features a total of 17 blue-chippers in the junior and senior classes this season.

10. Bixby – Okla.

The Spartans have now collected six consecutive Oklahoma state titles and are showing no signs of relenting. Dominating in Division II before moving up to Division I in 2022 and continuing to win, Bixby is the only Oklahoma program in the Massey Ratings top 100. Auburn four-star offensive tackle commit Broderick Shull and the Spartans begin their season on Aug. 30 at Owasso (Okla.).
