National HSFB Top 25

The latest national high school football top 25 rankings are in following another big week of Friday night lights.

Minimal movement throughout the top 10 is highlighted by the addition of IMG Academy (Fla.), which moved to No. 10 following a blowout win. Mater Dei (Calif.) remains the top-ranked program in the nation.

Below are the top 25 teams across the country entering the third weekend of September, per the On3 Massey Ratings:

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Mater Dei (Calif.)

Previous: No. 1
The Monarchs are now 3-0 after a dominant 38-7 win on the road over Kahuku, the No. 2 team in Hawaii. Offense has been easy to come by for the California juggernaut, as it has now scored 111 points through its first three games, all of which have been against quality opposition. Mater Dei is idle this week and will now gear up for another big test on Sept. 27 when St. Frances Academy, the No. 1 team in Maryland, makes the cross-country trek to the Golden State.

2. St. John Bosco (Calif.)

Previous: No. 3 (+1)
The Braves (4-0) are making an argument for the top spot in the state and the nation so far, with the latest example being a 56-16 win on the road over Junipero Serra San Mateo last week. St. John Bosco has already won three games away from home in 2024, and like Mater Dei, possesses a top-three offense and defense in the nation. The Braves host Pittsburg for another in-state matchup this week.

3. Duncanville (Texas)

Previous: No. 2 (-1)
After being idle in Week 1 of the Texas schedule, the Panthers traveled to face Dallas-area rival South Oak Cliff and handily defeated them 34-12. Things turned up a notch in Week 2 when they welcome nationally ranked St. Frances Academy (Md.) to Texas. Behind another stellar performance from Alabama QB commit Keelon Russell, the No. 3 signal-caller in the senior class, they gutted out a 28-24 victory and avoided the upset.

4. Southlake Carroll (Texas)

Previous: No. 4
The Dragons made relatively easy work of Midland in Week 1 in a 48-24 romp, then dominated Hebron to get off to a 2-0 start. Awaiting them in Week 3 was a matchup with top-15 foe Byron Nelson, and while the Bobcats put up a fight, Carroll ultimately pulled away for a 33-21 victory to move to 3-0. The Dragons head to Trinity this week.

5. North Shore (Texas)

Previous: No. 5
North Shore dominated South Oak Cliff 38-0 to open the season and then handled Crowley 28-13 in Week 2. The Mustangs smothering defense overwhelmed Westfield 47-3 on Friday night as they stayed undefeated, improving to 3-0. The Mustangs are set to return to action this Thursday, hosting undefeated Humble.

6. Atascocita (Texas)

Previous: No. 7 (+1)
Atascocita pulled off one of the biggest — and most impressive — wins of the early season by beating a strong Katy team 41-24. A top-10 showdown with Austin Westlake over the weekend again put them to the test, but they passed with flying colors by rolling to a 39-21 that ended the Chaps’ 44-game regular season winning streak dating back to 2018. Eagles quarterback Cardae Mack threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns, adding 111 rushing yards and a score, which included picking up a fumble and sprinting 56 yards to the end zone.

7. Bishop Gorman (Nev.)

Previous: No. 6 (-1)
It didn’t take Bishop Gorman (3-1) long to rebound from its loss to Mater Dei earlier this month, as it followed up with a 55-28 win over a nationally-ranked Orange Lutheran (Calif.) team that entered the week undefeated. The Gaels have now worked through the toughest part of their schedule and will look to settle in to in-state play, beginning with a trip to Liberty, the No. 2 team in the state, on Sept. 27.

8. North Crowley (Texas)

Previous: No. 9 (+1)
North Crowley won one of its biggest games in recent memory by beating DeSoto in a thriller last weekend — handing them their first loss since the 2022-23 season. Their reward? Hosting No. 7 Denton Guyer in another massive showdown with the Panthers rolling to a 49-28 blowout win. Wide receiver Quentin Gibson continued his torrid start to the season, hauling in seven receptions for 253 yards and four touchdowns.

9. DeSoto (Texas)

Previous: No. 8 (-1)
The defending state champion Eagles were flying high after a 70-0 win over Creekside (Ga.) on opening weekend. They faced a different beast in Week 2 with top-10 foe North Crowley, who ultimately won a wild shootout 57-51. After licking their wounds for a few days, the Eagles blitzed an impressive squad in Miller, 57-21.

10. IMG Academy (Fla.)

Previous: No. 13 (+3)
The Ascenders’ season-opening loss to Corner Canyon is well in the rear view as they’ve rebounded for a trio of impressive wins since. Behind SMU QB commit Ty Hawkins and a brigade of blue-chip prospects, IMG has excelled on both sides of the ball. After slamming Mt. Zion (Md.) 57-0 last week, the Florida program will now look to make it four wins in a row when it heads to Jacksonville to take on Mandarin later this week.
