National HSFB Top 25

Seasons are beginning to take shape across parts of the nation, while the state of Texas kicked off over the weekend. After another big slate of games, there’s been plenty of movement in the national high school football rankings.

The top seven of the On3 Massey Ratings top 25 remains unchanged, but the state of Oklahoma is now well represented with four teams considered amongst the nation’s best. After defeating preseason No. 10 Bixby, Owasso has entered the picture by making a major jump up to No. 11. Teams from Ohio, Texas and Illinois have also made big moves.

Four top-25 matchups are set for this weekend. Below is the updated On3 Massey Ratings top 25, as of Sept. 2.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

*Win-Loss records are 0-0 unless noted otherwise.

1. Mater Dei – Calif. (1-0)

Previous: No. 1
After rolling in its season-opener, Mater Dei was idle last week as it now gears up for one of, if not the biggest national regular season matchup of the year. The Monarchs are set to host No. 7 Bishop Gorman at Santa Ana Stadium on Friday night. The matchup will feature nearly 20 blue-chip prospects. Mater Dei has won all three previous meetings between the two powerhouse programs.

2. Duncanville – Texas

Previous: No. 2
Duncanville was not a part of the opening week of football in the Lone Star State, but the Panthers will finally take the field on Friday night when they head to South Oak Cliff in Dallas. Duncanville has won back-to-back state titles for the first time in school history and will be top candidates to add another trophy to the mantle this season, led by Oregon Five-Star Plus+ receiver commit Dakorien Moore and Alabama five-star QB commit Keelon Russell.

3. DeSoto – Texas

Previous: No. 3
DeSoto made a statement on Saturday night, blitzing the defending Georgia 5A state champions Creekside in a 70-0 throttling. It was 41-0 after the first quarter as Virginia Tech QB commit Kelden Ryan and Co. cemented Texas’ status atop the high school football world. A nationally-ranked tilt is on the cards this Friday as the Eagles host No. 20 North Crowley.

4. St. John Bosco – Calif. (2-0)

Previous: No. 4
Out in California, St. John Bosco responded to Texas with a demolition of its own, defeating El Paso Eastwood 71-14. The Braves now have wins over teams from Florida and the Lone Star State and will now prepare for their first in-state game on Saturday night, when they head to Chatsworth to take on Sierra Canyon, a top-10 team in the Golden State.

5. Southlake Carroll – Texas (1-0)

Previous: No. 5
The Dragons’ offense put up 48 points in a 24-point win over Midland to kick off the season last week. USC running back commit Riley Wormley ran for 126 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Southlake Carroll gets on the road for the first time this season this weekend when it faces Hebron in Carrollton on Friday evening.

6. North Shore – Texas (1-0)

Previous: No. 6
Led by Ohio State Five-Star Plus+ CB commit Devin Sanchez, North Shore pitched a shutout in its 38-0 victory over South Oak Cliff last Friday. The Mustangs head to Crowley this week in what will likely be another tune up as they prepare for a bout with Westfield, a top-20 program in the state, on Sept. 13.

7. Bishop Gorman – Nev. (2-0)

Previous: No. 7
Like Mater Dei, Bishop Gorman was also idle last week as it prepares for the monumental matchup on the road in Santa Ana this Friday. The Gaels already have wins over Kahuku, the No. 2 team in Hawaii, as well as St. Thomas Aquinas, the No. 3 program in Florida. The On3 Massey Ratings heavily favor Mater Dei, but Gorman will look to improve to 1-3 all-time against the California juggernaut later this week.

8. Guyer – Texas (1-0)

Previous: No. 12 (+4)
The national game of the week last time around saw Guyer outlast Aledo for a big 35-30 victory. The Wildcats received a four-spot bump as a result and are now the No. 5 program in the Lone Star State entering the second full week of the season. Guyer stays home this week to take on Arlington Martin.

9. Westlake – Texas (1-0)

Previous: No. 18 (+9)
Westlake was up to snuff in its season-opener against Prosper, rolling to a 35-14 victory last Thursday. After making a big move inside the top 10, the Chaparrals are nearing a national top-10 showdown against Atascocita on Sept. 13. Up first is a home matchup against San Benito this Friday.

10. Atascocita – Texas (1-0)

Previous: No. 10 (-1)
Oklahoma four-star running back commit Tory Blaylock looked like one of the top offensive players in the state last week, speeding past Houston Lamar for multiple touchdowns in a 35-7 win to open Atascocita’s season. The Eagles have no time to look ahead to the major road game at Westlake later this month, as a national top-25 bout on the road is on the docket this Friday against No. 24 Katy.
