The results were unsurprising during the second week of the 2024 Nebraska high school football season. While there were some closely fought games, the favored teams still emerged on top.

Therefore, based on last week’s rankings, the Nebraska On3 Massey Ratings Top 25 as of September 9 has not changed. The only change within the Top 30 is Seward (29th) and Bellevue West (30th) switching places.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Westside

Previous: No. 1
The Warriors are the best Nebraska high school football team on both ends. They’ve limited Omaha North and Columbus to ten points while putting up 70. Going up against Millard West on Friday should deliver another convincing victory for Westside.

2. Norfolk Catholic

Previous: No. 2
After edging Bishop Neumann in their season opener (28-21), the Knights put some concerns to rest after beating Boone Central by 29 points. They can remain undefeated by beating North Bend Central and Arlington in their next two games.

3. Millard South

Previous: No. 3
The Patriots bounced back from their defeat to Arizona-based Basha with a 56-0 demolition of Millard West. Millard South has the second-best offense in Nebraska high school football, averaging 47.5 points after two games. With a victory over Kearney on September 12, they could have their first win streak this season.

4. Elkhorn South

Previous: No. 4
The Storm ravaged Lincoln East and Bellevue West in their first two games this year, scoring 76 points while giving up only 19. If they can be this dominant against ranked teams, imagine what Elkhorn South could do against North Star on September 13.

5. Wahoo

Previous: No. 5
The Warriors’ performance against Ashland-Greenwood was a far cry from their season-opening onslaught against Nebraska City, in which they scored 62 unanswered points. Likewise, Wahoo’s fourth-ranked defense should contain Daniel J. Gross’ offense during their September 13 matchup.

6. Bennington

Previous: No. 6
The Badgers’ defense was humming in their first two games after limiting Gretna East to seven points and blanking Waverly during their season opener. Those results led to Bennington’s defense being ranked third among Nebraska high school football teams.

7. Boone Central

Previous: No. 7
The Cardinals held on to the seventh spot despite their 36-7 loss to Norfolk Catholic. Luckily, their 14-0 win against Cedar Catholic still holds some weight. However, Boone Central’s defense will be tested against undefeated Battle Creek on September 13.

8. Pierce

Previous: No. 8
The Bluejays maintained their winning ways after their season-opening victory over Aurora. In their latest game, they held Logan View-Scribner-Snider scoreless while scoring 16 unanswered points. Pierce will have a football date against Douglas County West on Saturday.

9. Gretna

Previous: No. 9
The Dragons have unleashed their explosive offense to begin their 2024 campaign. After scoring 38 points against Elkhorn, they also poured 52 markers against Norris. Surprisingly, their total winning margin for both games is 17 points. Gretna favors high-scoring games thanks to their fourth-ranked offense.

10. Skutt Catholic

Previous: No. 10
The SkyHawks’ game is trending up. After their season-opening victory against Norris, they dominated the Sitting Bear Grizzlies with a 42-0 blowout. Skutt Catholic can maintain their winning streak against Plattsmouth (September 13) and Ralston (September 20).
