Alabama WR signee Lotzeir Brooks wins New Jersey Player of the Year award
Few New Jersey high school football players in recent memory have racked up more awards and accolades than Lotzeir Brooks.
The Millville High wide receiver and Alabama signee is the state record holder for career receiving yards (4,615) and touchdowns (67). He has been named First Team All-State and First Team All-Conference each of his four seasons dating back to his freshman year.
And he’s been named the Atlantic City Press Player of the Year and the South Jersey Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. On Friday, he added another big one to the mantle: New Jersey Player of the Year, according to NJ.com.
The award comes on the heels of a senior season where he notched 56 receptions for 1,260 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had 31 tackles on defense and three interceptions and helped lead Millville to a 10-3 record and state semifinal berth.
In addition to that, he was featured on ESPN’s Sportscenter Top 10 after one of his leaping touchdown catches went viral in September.

Brooks also won New Jersey’s ‘high school Heisman’
Earlier in the week, he was awarded the Zoneman Trophy, which is considered the Heisman Trophy for the state of New Jersey.
In doing so, he beat out Kentucky wide receiver signee Cameron Miller, Notre Dame running back signee Nolan James, and Ohio State receiver signee Quincy Porter.
He joins an impressive list of former winners that includes Stanford freshman running back Micah Ford, former Notre Dame star Audric Estime and Syracuse star defensive lineman Fadil Diggs.
“A very dynamic player,” Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said regarding Brooks on signing day. “Got good size as far as a frame and everything and can jump through the roof. Just super explosive and great ball skills. He’s an athlete, a very good athlete, but he’s also a wide receiver. He has those instinctual things, that spatial awareness, can make guys miss when he gets the ball in his hands, but he gets the ball in his hands.”
