History was made in New Jersey high school football over the weekend, as a more than decade-old record has fallen.

Millville (N.J.) wide receiver and On300 Alabama commit Lotzier Brooks set the New Jersey high school state record for career receiving touchdowns (54), breaking a mark that had stood for 11 years.

The record-breaking score came on Friday night Battle at the Beach game between Millville and Holy Spirit. And ironically enough, Brooks’ first ever touchdown as a prep star came as a freshman in the same event.

The record breaking score came on a 44-yard score at the 10:21 mark of the third quarter. Brooks had five receptions for 202 yards and three touchdowns in total, as well as an interception on defense. Behind that performance, Millville rolled to a 35-0 victory.

The Alabama commit entered his final season with more than 3,300 career receiving yards. He has been extremely prolific in each of his previous three years at the high school level.

As a junior, he pulled down 61 passes for 1,295 yards and 22 TDs as a junior. The year prior, he had 69 receptions for 1,089 yards and 14 TDs as a sophomore, and nabbed 37 catchers for 971 yards and 15 TDs as a freshman.

Brooks is also now 657 yards away from setting the career state receiving yardage record of 4,212, held Westwood’s Nolan Borgerson, who also held the touchdowns mark.

Crimson Tide getting one of New Jersey’s all-time prospects

The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder announced his commitment to Alabama on April 13. The Crimson Tide’s previous staff offered in 2023 after he ran a sub 4.4-second 40 at the Tide’s camp.

Brooks returned to Tuscaloosa in early April where he met with the the new staff, including Coach Kalen DeBoer, wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan. He quickly committed after the visit, and has only jumped in the recruiting rankings in recent months.

According to On3, Brooks is the No. 101 overall prospect and No. 15 WR in the class. Each of the other three major recruiting services has him ranked outside the top-150 nationally, with two having him not ranked as a blue-chip prospect at all.

“This is a guy who is really a pure football player, and has a rare skill set for a receiver of his size,” said On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power. “Typically, with receivers at that size, you don’t see the combination of high-end ball skills plus playmaking ability with the ball in his hands, and he shows both. When you take stock of his junior year, it’s not hard to see why Alabama made him a priority. He’s a guy who can move around the formation and work all areas.”
