New York high school basketball has long been a hotbed for talented players who excelled in higher levels of competition. That said, the state’s best players spearhead the attack for some of the top 25 teams in the New York On3 Composite Ranking. Here are the state’s best teams in the 2024 preseason rankings, with three teams reaching the nationwide top 100.

The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, Cal Preps, ESPN, and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.

1. Long Island Lutheran

The Crusaders are New York high school basketball’s top team because of their roster’s immense talent level. In addition to Syracuse commit Kiyan Anthony and Penn State commit Kayden Mingo, they also have Dylan Mingo, Moussa Kamissoko, and Marquette signee Nigel James. The 12th-best team in the nation will start their season against St. Joseph on Nov. 30.

2. Archbishop Stepinac

While Boogie Fland is off to Arkansas, the Crusaders still have a formidable roster, starting with UMass commit Danny Carbuccia. The point guard from White Plains will be the primary orchestrator of Archbishop Stepinac’s offense, featuring Jasiah Jervis, Hassan Koureissi, and twins Adonis and Darius Ratliff. The 26th-best team in the county will face St. Frances Academy in their season opener on Nov. 30.

3. St. Raymond For Boys

The Ravens won scrimmage games over Pace Academy and DeSoto. St. Raymond’s 29-point third-quarter barrage became the turning point in their win over the Eagles. The Ravens’ ability to defeat top-flight opposition will depend on the performance of Anderson Diaz, Brandon Stores, and Tai Turnage every game. The Ravens will open their season against Mount St. Michael on Nov. 24.

4. Nazareth

The Kingsman made it to last season’s New York Catholic High Schools Athletic Association Class AA state championship game. Unfortunately, they lost to Archbishop Stepinac, who successfully defended their title. Nazareth will be back with a vengeance this year, hoping to become victorious. The Kingsman will face Philadelphia’s Neumann Goretti on Nov. 30.

5. Christ the King Regional

The Royals have been a powerhouse in the CHSAA Class AA. Senior Cameron Zeigler, Jayden Ramirez, Ganilo Quintos, Julian Krause, Christian Cook, and Markell Alston will lead head coach Joe Arbitello’s crew this year. Christ The King will open their season against St. Francis Prep on Dec. 6.

6. St. Francis Preparatory School

The Terriers dropped the final game of their 2023-24 campaign to Archbishop Stepinac. Head coach Jimmy Lynch and his staff hope for a better finish this season. But before getting there, they must take care of their earlier games, including their season-opener against Stevenson on Nov. 30.
