New York Yankees pitcher's younger brother earns prestigious high school honor

The Carl Yastrzemski Award is handed out to recognize the top high school baseball player out of New York’s Suffolk County, Long Island. The 57th edition of the prestigious honor was given out to a player who’s brother won the same award 17 years ago.

According to a Newsday report, New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman’s brother, Jayden, has won the 57th Carl Yastrzemski Award on Monday. The Patchogue-Medford senior pitcher just completed his senior season with the Raiders and put up some solid numbers this past 2025 campaign.

Per the report, Stroman finished the season going 5-0 with an eye-popping 0.70 earned run average along with 50 strikeouts. All of this was done with a mere 20 innings of work for the senior pitcher, making it that much more impressive.

At the plate, Stroman was impressed as well for the Raiders, with the senior batting .456 with five home runs, 41 runs scored and driving in 15 as well. Stroman also added 23 stolen bases and walked 25 times this past spring.

For the younger Stroman, this is the pitcher’s third high school in as many years, playing previously at IMG Academy and Stony Brook Prep, respectively, before finishing up his prep career at Patchogue-Medford. He is currently committed to the University of Virginia, but has drawn interest from a host of Major League Baseball (MLB) teams as well and is projected by many to be drafted in the mid-July 2025 draft.

The older Stroman, who has played for the Yankees the last two seasons, is currently rehabbing from an injury. Stroman has played in the MLB for a decade now, posting a career mark of 87-86 with a 3.77 earned run average and has fanned 1,211 batters.
