No. 25 Long Island Lutheran defeats La Lumiere to close Hoophall Classic
The Long Island Lutheran Crusaders closed the 2025 Hoophall Classic with a victory over the La Lumiere Lakers 68-55. The victory improved Long Island Lutheran’s record to 10-5, making them the 25th-best team in the National On3 Composite Team Rankings. Meanwhile, La Lumiere dropped to 5-11 and is on a five-game losing streak.
The Crusaders dominated the first three quarters by a total score of 52-31. However, while La Lumiere outscored Long Island Lutheran in the fourth quarter (24-16), it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
Syracuse commit Kiyan Anthony led the way with 16 points, while Penn State signee Kayden Mingo finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Likewise, the Crusaders got 12 points and two steals from Dylan Mingo, while Nico Onyekwere had ten points and three blocks.
Long Island Lutheran shot 53.7 percent from the field and converted four out of 15 three-point attempts. The Crusaders led the Lakers in all scoring facets, including points in the paint (44-22) and points off turnovers (13-3). New York’s top-ranked squad got 18 points from their bench and 11 points off second chances.

The Crusaders won the game despite converting only six out of eight free throw attempts. Conversely, La Lumiere converted 17 tries from the free throw stripe in this Hoophall Classic match. UConn commit Darius Adams led the Lakers with 17 points, while San Jose State signee Melvin Bell Jr. added 14 points and seven rebounds. They were the only players who scored in double digits for La Lumiere.
After this defeat, La Lumiere ranks 84th in the National On3 Composite Rankings. They will try to snap their losing streak against East Chicago Central on January 27. Meanwhile, Long Island Lutheran has won six of their last seven games. They can extend their winning streak to three games by defeating Half Hollow Hills East on January 24.
