Maria Stein (Ohio) Marion Local plays high school football in Ohio’s smallest classification — Division VII. Yet, despite the school’s size, the Flyers are a team nobody in the Buckeye State wants to play.
Coming into the weekend ranked No. 4 in the On3 Massey Ratings Ohio top 25, Marion Local was set to take on Division VI Coldwater, the 15th-ranked team in the state. The Flyers had won 57 consecutive games — not having lost since falling in the postseason to New Bremen (Ohio) in 2020.
Marion Local blasted its way past Coldwater 35-0, in the process setting the Ohio state record for consecutive wins with 58.
The win in the regular season finale marked Marion Local’s ninth straight Midwest Athletic Conference title. The Flyers will now prepare to chase their fourth state championship in four years.
