Notre Dame CB commit Mark Zackery scores 100-yard pick six
A titanic season-opening clash in Indiana between Indianapolis giants Ben Davis and Cathedral is underway on Friday evening.
One of the top players on the field in the Hoosier State is Ben Davis cornerback Mark Zackery, a four-star prospect currently committed to Notre Dame. Unfortunately for Ben Davis, its first touchdown of the evening came via Zackery on the defensive side of the ball in the third quarter.
The blue-chip defensive back was in the right place at the right time in the end zone, catching a tipped pass and hustling all the way to the other end of the field for a 100-yard pick six score:
Zackery is the No. 104 overall prospect and No. 12 corner in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 3 player in Indiana.
He was a machine in the secondary last season as a junior, helping lead Ben Davis to a state title. Racking up 39 total tackles, Zackery deflected eight passes, caused a pair of fumbles, recovered three fumbles and picked off four passes. Those four INTs led to 113 return yards. His interception on Friday nearly matched that yardage total in a matter of seconds.

He is also the point guard for Ben Davis, one of the best basketball programs in the Midwest. He had an offer from Butler, won state on the hardwood as a sophomore and returned to the final as a junior. The 5-foot-10.5, 160-pounder pledged to the Fighting Irish on May 25 and is one of the four highest-ranked commits in Marcus Freeman’s 2025 class.
“I just feel like it was a great fit for me,” Zackery told On3 of his decision. “Just me going up there plenty of times with my family, just me going up there multiple times and them showing me love and showing me where I would fit in their program.”
Ben Davis begins the 2024 season as the No. 3 team in Indiana, according to the On3 Massey Ratings. The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.
