Oak Ridge (Texas) hires Magnolia DC Tyler Blackshire as new head football coach
Coming off a disappointing 3-7 season in 2024, Conroe (Texas) Oak Ridge High head coach Mark Schmid announced his retirement. The school has now announced his replacement.
The War Eagles have hired Tyler Blackshire to take over the program. Blackshire makes the Class 6A Division-II move to Oak Ridge following three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Magnolia High.
Blackshire announced his hiring on Wednesday via X:
“While my time at Magnolia has been incredibly rewarding, I’m excited to share that I will be stepping into a new role as the Campus Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Conroe Oak Ridge High School,” he wrote. “I look forward to building relationships, working with the War Eagle community, and continuing to positively impact student-athletes both on and off the field, while building a culture of excellence.”
Going 5-5 last season, Magnolia allowed just over 28 points per game. The Bulldogs had a strong start to the year but lost three of their last four games. They ranked as the No. 123 team in Texas, according to the On3 Composite Rankings. In 2023, Mangolia put together a 9-3 campaign.

Last season was a struggle for Oak Ridge as it also limped to the finish line, losing four of its last five games. Defense was an issue for the War Eagles, as it allowed over 47 points per game. Teams eclipsed 50 points against Oak Ridge six times. It finished the season as the No. 356 team in the state.
Schmid took things over in 2019 and helped put together three winning seasons during his time at the helm. He now turns things over to Blackshire, who will look to make some noise in the 13th district in 2025.
