Week three of Ohio high school football saw Lakota West get upset on the road by a ranked Princeton squad while St. Edward and Massillon Washington fell to out-of-state opponents.
This week’s slate features just one ranked matchup as Elder takes on St. Edward, but Massillon Washington and Archbishop Moeller will respectively face teams from New York and Georgia.
Below are the Ohio high school football games of the week.
The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

Canisius (N.Y.) at #4 Massillon Washington – Friday, Sept. 13
Canisius is 1-0 on the year after beating Scranton Prep (Pa.) 39-25 in week one for New York high school football last Saturday. The Crusaders rank No. 5 in the Empire State. Massillon Washington started the year hot with wins over NFL Academy London (U.K.) and GlenOak but dropped its out-of-state matchup against New Jersey’s top program, Bergen Catholic, 35-21. The Tigers are defending state champs and have a top-5 offense and defense in Ohio. The On3 Massey Ratings project a 42-6 Massillon win.
St. Ignatius at #8 Walsh Jesuit – Friday, Sept. 13
A traditional powerhouse, St. Ignatius has struggled this season to capture the magic of years past. The Wildcats are 1-2 with losses to Avon and Mentor to open the year. Ignatius was able to bounce back last week with a 35-21 win over Dublin Coffman. Walsh Jesuit remained perfect with a 52-0 shutout win over St. Vincent-St. Mary. The Warriors have a win over No. 25 Ursuline on the year and have continued to rise in the rankings after starting the preseason ranked No. 25. Walsh Jesuit is projected to beat St. Ignatius 40-22, per the On3 Massey Ratings.

#15 Olentangy Liberty at Olentangy Berlin – Friday, Sept. 13
Olentangy Liberty has been dominant this season, sprinting out to a 3-0 record with an average margin of victory of 23 points – most recently a 31-0 win over preseason top-15 squad Gahanna Lincoln. This week, it’s a rivalry showdown with Olentangy Berlin. The Bears are 2-1 with wins over St. Francis De Sales and New Albany, but a week two loss to Upper Arlington. Berlin won last year’s edition of this rivalry, 24-17 in overtime, but the On3 Massey Ratings project a 23-14 Liberty win this Friday.
#7 Elder at #1 St. Edward – Saturday, Sept. 14
Elder forced six turnovers in its 30-6 win over Springboro to improve to 3-0 on the year. Senior linebacker Maddox Arnold (Toledo commit) has been dominant this season for the Panthers. St. Edward has won three consecutive Division I state championships, and the Eagles are well on the way to defending their titles again this season. But an out-of-state matchup proved to be too much for St. Edward last weekend, as it fell 38-21 to Boyle County (Ky.). The On3 Massey Ratings project a 39-12 St. Edward win.
Benedictine Military School (Ga.) at No. 2 Archbishop Moeller – Saturday, Sept. 14
Benedictine lost five-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek to Florida State after last season, but the Cadets still feature a pair of blue-chip prospects in junior Miami commit Herbert Scroggins and four-star defensive lineman Kameron Cody. Benedictine is 1-2 this season with losses to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School and Buford, and a win over Burke County. Moeller stayed perfect on the season with a 42-13 win over East Central (Ind.). Two Crusaders are already committed to Power 4 schools: Louisville defensive back commit Micah Rice and Northwestern EDGE pledge Jonah Hayes. They lead a defense that ranks No. 6 in the state of Ohio. Moeller is projected to beat Benedictine 35-21, per the On3 Massey Ratings.
