Ohio High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - September 2
The top 10 of the Ohio high school football rankings did not see much of a shakeup after the second week of the season, but the top 25 saw movement up and down the board.
Avon and Olentangy Liberty won the lone top-25 matchups of week two while top-ranked St. Edward showed out on the national scene with a win over St. Joseph’s Prep School (Pa.).
Below is the updated Ohio On3 Massey Ratings top 25, as of Sept. 2.
The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. St. Edward
Previous Ranking: No. 1
St. Edward played in one of the nation’s best games of the week on Saturday as the Eagles hosted St. Joseph’s Prep School (Pa.) — the high school that produced Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, who was in attendance. Junior running back Brandon White kicked off the scoring with a 75-yard touchdown run as St. Edward jumped out to a 28-0 lead over the Hawks. Quarterback Thomas Csanyi finished 11-of-21 passing for 147 yards and two touchdowns. St. Edward will next host Kentucky’s No. 4 squad — Boyle County — on Saturday.
2. Massillon Washington
Previous Ranking: No. 3 (+1)
Massillon Washington went on the road and shut out GlenOak 45-0 to move to 2-0 on the season. Quarterback Jalen Slaughter and running back Ja’Meir Gamble both accounted for two touchdowns each. The Tigers will face New Jersey’s No. 1 Bergen Catholic on Friday, which is fresh off of a loss to IMG Academy.
3. Archbishop Moeller
Previous Ranking: No. 2 (-1)
Moeller went to Indiana to play Bishop Dwenger and came away with a 42-18 blowout victory. It was a 21-18 game late in the third quarter before the Crusaders went on a 21-point run to put Dwenger away. Matt Ponatoski was 24-of-36 passing for 362 yards and four touchdowns, two of which were to Matthew Fogler. Moeller is now 2-0 and will play East Central (Ind.) on Friday.
4. Toledo Central Catholic
Previous Ranking: No. 4
A Toledo crosstown showdown between the Irish and Toledo Whitmer ended in a 27-17 win for Central Catholic. Senior running back Tyler Morgan ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, extending Central Catholic’s winning streak to 33 games. Junior running back Anthony Sylvester ran for another 105 yards and a score on 20 attempts. Next up for the Fighting Irish is a conference game against Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.). Toledo Central Catholic won last year’s matchup 42-21.
5. Lakota West
Previous Ranking: No. 5
A week after its big win over St. Xavier, Lakota West shut out a solid Hamilton squad 31-0 behind a four-touchdown performance from Sam Wiles — two through the air and two on the ground. The Firebirds held Hamilton to just over 100 yards of total offense. This week, West will go on the road to No. 17 Princeton.
6. Archbishop Hoban
Previous Ranking: No. 8 (+2)
Facing an out-of-state opponent for the second consecutive week, Hoban moved to 1-1 on the season with a 21-7 win over Don Bosco Prep (N.J.). Hoban rushed for a whopping 305 yards as a team — including 125 yards and all three touchdowns from Brayton Feister. The Knights will host Buchtel on Friday.
7. Avon
Previous Ranking: No. 6 (-1)
Avon hosted then-No. 22 Canton McKinley on Friday and scraped away a 21-14 win against the Bulldogs. The Eagles turned the ball over three times and committed 13 penalties, but the defense produced seven sacks — including on McKinley’s final drive following a successful onside kick. Tyler Kaufmann scored on a 16-yard run to put the Eagles up 21-7 ahead of McKinley’s comeback bid. Avon will next play No. 25 Glenville at home.

9. Winton Woods
Previous Ranking: No. 7 (-2)
A 19-5 win over Kings moved Justin Hill and the Warriors to 2-0 on the season. Hill also accounted for five tackles on the evening. Winton Woods will play Milford this week.
10. Walsh Jesuit
Previous Ranking: No. 11 (+1)
Walsh Jesuit traveled over to Pennsylvania to play McDowell (Pa.) and returned home with a 47-21 win under its belt.
