Oklahoma high school football will get all that more interesting this fall, as 4-star quarterback and OU commit Jaden O’Neal is reportedly set to transfer to the Sooner State for his final year of eligibility.

According to Toby Rowland of News9, O’Neal has already enrolled at Mustang High and will start classes next week.

O’Neal comes to Oklahoma from Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne, where he transferred for his junior season after playing two years at nearby Newport Harbor. He missed the first seven games of the 2024 season due to transfer rules, but ultimately led Narbonne to a Los Angeles City Section Open Division championship in December.

In the team’s 75-37 win over San Pedro in the city title game, O’Neal completed 14 of 21 passes for 396 yards with six passing touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown.

In eight games for Narbonne, the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder threw for 1,798 yards and 16 scores while completing better than 71 percent of passes. That followed a junior campaign at Newport Harbor where he finished with 2,475 passing yards and 27 touchdowns while completing 61% of his attempts.

O’Neal’s lone season at Narbonne had plenty of highs and lows

Narbonne’s 2024 season was long on controversy, as multiple Marine League rival schools forfeited games against the Gauchos because of alleged transfer recruiting violations.

A few weeks later, seven Narbonne players were declared ineligible after an investigation into the football program by the L.A. Unified School District and L.A. City Section. The four forfeit wins they were given remained as victories, but their regular season record was changed to 4-6 because of the ineligible players. They went on to win the City Section title before falling to Pacifica in the Division 2-AA regional finals.

O’Neal joins a Mustang program coming off a 5-6 season in 2024 that ended in a first-round playoff loss to Tulsa Union. The Broncos started the season 4-1, including a thrilling 49-48 win over rival Broken Arrow, but lost five of their final six games.

He ranks as the nation’s No. 143 overall recruit and No. 11 quarterback in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
