As of Sept. 24, 2024, there was little movement in the Oregon On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list. Thurston and Cascade Senior rose in the Oregon high school football rankings, while South Salem and Dallas dropped by one or two spots.

Meanwhile, the top 16 spots have stayed the same, including 11 teams without a loss. Here’s how the state’s best teams fare before a fresh slate of games happens over the weekend.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. West Linn

Previous: No. 1
The Lions turned a 20-6 deficit into a 34-27 victory over Sumner, Washington’s fourth-best high school football team. They scored four touchdowns in the final two quarters and sealed their win with an interception. Those scoring plays were a massive part of the 472 yards West Linn gained against the Spartans. West Linn hopes to avoid the same scare against Skyview, Washington’s fifth-ranked team, on Sept. 27.

2. Central Catholic

Previous: No. 2
In addition to shutting down Sam Barlow, the Rams scored 65 points on offense in 432 total yards (264 passing). They have outscored their foes 145-44 and have a 27-point average margin of victory. Central Catholic will carry its undefeated record as it hosts Clackamas on Thursday, Sept. 26.

3. Tualatin

Previous: No. 3
While the Timberwolves gave up the most points to an opponent this season, Sherwood’s 35 points still weren’t enough to hand Tualatin a loss. Their high-powered offense tallied 55 points, their second-highest production in three games. Conversely, the Timberwolves have Oregon high school football’s fifth-best defense despite giving up 25.3 points per game. Tualatin will host Union on Sept. 27 for a shot at a 4-0 record.

4. Sheldon

Previous: No. 4
The Sheldon Irish have the third-best defense in the state, allowing 23 points in their first three games. They improved to 3-0 after a one-sided match against North Medford, in which Mana Tuioti had 127 rushing yards, 39 receiving yards, and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Sheldon’s defense tallied ten tackles for losses, five sacks, and two interceptions versus the Black Tornado. If the Irish have been impressive against ranked opponents, they should have an easier time defeating winless McNary at home on the 27th.

5. Lake Oswego

Previous: No. 5
The Lakers make it look easy as they cruise to their third consecutive victory to start the 2024 Oregon high school football season. Newberg Senior was Lake Oswego’s latest victim, limiting them to seven points while scoring 35. LaMarcus Bell led the Lakers’ offense with two rushing touchdowns, while Justin Craigwell added a touchdown catch. Lake Oswego was efficient against Newberg, scoring 35 on 184 yards on offense. The Lakers could maintain their unblemished record when they visit Ridgeview on the 26th.

6. Lakeridge

Previous: No. 6
The Pacers improved to 3-0 after edging the Mountainside Mavericks on the road. Ansu Sanoe led the way on offense with 105 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, quarterback Drew Weiler converted a touchdown pass to Turner Propio. On defense, Shanko Kornachuk and David Moore had 6.5 tackles each, while Marcus Post had an interception. Lakeridge will clash with Wilsonville on Sept. 27 in a battle of undefeated teams.

7. Jesuit

Previous: No. 7
The Crusaders won two straight games after their season-opening loss to Tualatin. Their latest triumph came at Oregon City’s hands, wherein Dominic Locati pounded the ground with 183 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Joe Stimpson was all over the field, finishing with 140 receiving yards, 96 rushing yards, and two touchdowns. Next on Jesuit’s schedule is a Sept. 27 road game against Grant.

8. Wilsonville

Previous: No. 8
Quarterback Mark Wiepert navigated the Wildcats to their third straight victory by throwing for 363 yards and seven touchdowns. Nick Crowley received two of those scoring throws while collecting 156 yards. As Wilsonville’s offense finished with 463 yards on offense, their defense dominated with 96 tackles, seven tackles for losses, and five sacks. After this victory, the Wildcats will host Lakeridge in a high-profile battle on Sept. 27.

9. Sherwood

Previous: No. 9
The Bowmen were off-target against top-ranked teams West Linn and Tualatin. While their 35 points against Oregon high school football’s third-best team wasn’t enough to secure the win, Sherwood still got a remarkable performance from Wilson Medina, who finished with 363 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Wyatt Ferguson received a touchdown pass from Jackson Bell. Sherwood’s ability to excel at a high level will be tested when they visit Tigard on Sept. 27.

10. Silverton

Previous: No. 10
The Silver Foxes returned to the win column after defeating West Albany, 44-34. Silverton finished with 729 yards on offense, led by Daniel Kuenzi’s 97 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Sawyer Teeney added 182 passing yards and a touchdown, while Hudson Waples had a touchdown catch out of 112 receiving yards. Silverton gets a break this weekend but will host McKay on Oct. 4.
