Oregon high school football might play under revised districts once the Oregon School Activities Association approves the related draft recommendation. As Oregon Live’s Nik Streng wrote, the OSAA football ad hoc committee released the draft after their Dec. 19 meeting.

Under the proposed reclassification, the Willamette Wolverines could return to Special District 1 of Class 6A. If approved, Willamette will join some of the state’s top teams, like Sheldon, North Medford, and Sprague.

The Wolverines finished the 2024 season with an 8-2 record and ranked 42nd in the On3 Oregon Composite Team Rankings. Meanwhile, Sheldon ranked fourth, Sprague 12th, and North Medford 14th.

With Willamette potentially transferring to Class 6A, Class 5A could welcome four teams in McNary, Gresham, David Douglas, and Cleveland. The Cleveland Warriors and the McNary Celtics will be in Special District 2, joining Wilsonville, McKay, Hillsboro, Canby, and Aloha. Meanwhile, Forest Grove is in the said district, even if its teams in other sports are in Class 6A.

Conversely, the David Douglas Scots and the Gresham Gophers will join Special District 1. This group includes Putnam, Parkrose, Milwaukie, La Salle Prep, Hood River Valley, and Centennial.

Meanwhile, the teams in the previous Special District 2 will undergo reclassification. West Albany, South Albany, Silverton, Lebanon, Dallas, Corvallis, and Central will form Class 5A Special District 3. Silverton finished the season ninth in the Oregon high school football’s On3 Composite Rankings.

Likewise, South Eugene, North Eugene, Thurston, Churchill, Springfield, Crater, Roseburg, and Eagle Point will form Special District 4. Crook County will move from 4A to 5A, joining the Intermountain Conference with Summit, Bend, Ridgeview, Caldera, and Mountain View.

While these proposals have been revealed, the OSAA ad hoc committee will have additional meetings to finalize the classification. After this, the committee will recommend revisions to the OSAA executive board to finalize the Oregon high school football regrouping.
