Some of the DMV’s finest gathered at St. John’s High School in Washington D.C. on Saturday for the Behan Strong Invitational.

In one of the headlining games on the schedule, nationally-ranked Paul VI Catholic (Va.) managed to cruise past Georgetown Prep (Md.) for a 61-46 victory. Senior power forward Jaquan Womack led the Panthers with 18 points.

Womack, a Towson commit, was one of three in double-figures for the top-ranked team in Virginia. Star junior shooting guard Jordan Smith Jr. added 13 while Turk Brown finished with 10.

“It was a good win today, we dominated on the defensive side and moved the ball as a team,” Womack told Capitol Hoops postgame.

For Georgetown, New Zealand-born point guard Carter Berg-McLean led with 11 points. Boston College shooting guard signee Akbar Waheed was next with eight of his own.

The win improves Paul VI Catholic to 8-3 on the season. The Panthers are gearing up for the heart of their schedule, where they’ll take on multiple nationally-ranked foes, including St. John Bosco (Calif.), Gonzaga (Md.) and Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.). Following the latest update to the On3 Composite Rankings, Paul VI is the No. 20 team in the nation.

Georgetown Prep continues to hover around the .500 mark early on in the season, having played multiple elite programs in the DMV. The Hoyas are the nation’s No. 96 team and No. 5 team in Maryland.

The On3 Composite High School Basketball Team Ranking is a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected High School media and data companies. It includes Massey, Max Preps, ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced High School Team Ranking.
