Pennsylvania High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - September 16
On3

The Pennsylvania high school football rankings have updated after a fairly tame weekend in the Keystone State.

LaSalle College took down a ranked Monsignor Bonner to stay atop the Pennsylvania rankings while Upper Saint Clair won a ranked matchup of its own against Bethel Park.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

Below are the updated top 25 teams in the Pennsylvania On3 Massey Ratings, as of Oct. 13.

1. LaSalle College

LaSalle College improved to 8-0 on the season with a 35-13 win over No. 24 Monsignor Bonner last Friday. It was the Explorers’ fifth ranked victory of the year, joining wins against No. 17 Harrisburg, No. 4 Malvern, Calvert Hall College (Md.) and No. 2 St. Joseph’s Prep. LaSalle will close out the year with games against Father Judge and No. 15 Roman Catholic.

2. St. Joseph’s Prep School

St. Joseph’s Prep improved to 5-2 on Friday with a 35-14 win against Cardinal O’Hara. The Hawks have dropped games to St. Edward (Ohio) and No. 1 LaSalle; but do have signature wins over Erasmus Hall (N.Y.) and Good Counsel (Md.). On deck is No. 15 Roman Catholic before a season finale against No. 24 Monsignor Bonner.

3. Pine-Richland

Pine-Richland remained undefeated on the year with a 42-0 blowout win against Greater Latrobe. The Rams won a huge matchup back in August, 22-17 over No. 5 Central Catholic. Since then, they have rattled off wins against North Hills, Plum, Fox Chapel Area and Penn Hills. Up next is a showdown with No. 9 North Allegheny.

4. Malvern Prep

Malvern is 4-2 on the year, and while the Friars have just the No. 17 offense in the commonwealth, they have the state’s top-ranked defense. Malvern’s two losses have come to No. 1 LaSalle and No. 15 Roman Catholic; while it has wins against Delbarton (N.J.), Salesianum (Del.), Gonazaga (D.C.) and Episcopal Academy. The Friars will face Haverford at home this Friday.

5. Central Catholic

Central Catholic lost its first two games of the year — to St. Frances Academy (Md.) and No. 3 Pine-Richard — but since then has rattled off six straight wins against Woodland Hills, Mt. Lebanon, Hempfield Area, No. 9 North Allegheny, Shaler Area and Norwin. The Vikings are done playing ranked opponents until the postseason with games against Seneca Valley and Canon-McMillan coming up.

6. Upper Saint Clair

Upper Saint Clair improved to 7-0 over the weekend with a 14-10 road upset at previously undefeated Bethel Park. That win followed up a 21-7 upset over top-10 Peters Township the week before. The red-hot Panthers have the No. 6 defense in the commonwealth and have given up no more than two scores in a game since Aug. 23. Games against Moon Area and Baldwin will close out the regular season schedule — USC is a huge favorite in both matchups.

7. Manheim Township

The Blue Streaks are 8-0 in 2024 with a signature against No. 23 Central York coming back in August. They will close out their schedule against Penn Manor and Wilson as favorites in their quest for a perfect season. Manheim has a top-10 offense and defense in Pennsylvania.

8. Freedom

Freedom is still undefeated with a 7-0 record after handling Northampton Area 41-21 last Friday. A clash with No. 21 Easton Area is on deck before the season finale against Liberty in two weeks. The Patriots have a top-20 offense and defense in the commonwealth and have beaten the likes of No. 11 Parkland and No. 20 Nazareth.

9. North Allegheny

As we mentioned above, North Allegheny is getting set for one of the games of the year this weekend when the Tigers host No. 3 Pine-Richard as just 2-point underdogs. North Allegheny is 6-1 this season, its lone loss coming to No. 5 Central Catholic on the road. Pine-Richland will be just the second ranked team the Tigers have faced this year.

10. Peters Township

Peters Township is 6-1 after sitting idle over the weekend and beating Moon Area 23-13 the week prior. Peters has lost to just No. 6 Upper Saint Clair this year, and the Indians will look to close out with wins over Baldwin and No. 19 Bethel Park.
