The latest Pennsylvania high school football top 25 rankings are in for September 16th as the weekend concluded.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

Let’s dive into the latest rankings in high school football across the state of Pennsylvania.

1. St. Joseph’s Prep School

St. Joseph’s Prep School got a huge win over No. 4 Good Counsel (M.D.) on the road, 21-19. This is why this is the No. 1 team in Pennsylvania.

The Massey Ratings predicted St. Joseph’s to win 35-20 so this one was a little closer than anticipated. Next up is Father Judge at home this coming Friday.

2. LaSalle College

The Explorers dominated Episcopal Academy 48-3 in what was no contest Friday night. The Massey Ratings had the Pennsylvania power winning 42-12 but it ended up as a larger spread.

Next up, LaSalle will hit the road at Cardinal O’Hara. The next ranked matchup will be against St. Joseph’s, the top team in the state, in two weeks.

3. Pine-Richland (+1)

Pine-Richland took care of business over Plum on the road, winning 43-7. The Massey prediction had Pine-Richland winning 42-6 before the game.

Still undefeated, this squad is now the No. 3 team in Pennsylvania. Expect that to continue for a couple of more weeks.

4. Peters Township (+1)

Peters Township rolled to another victory to improve to 5-0 on the season with a 38-0 win over West Allegheny. The Massey Ratings predicted a 41-7 win, so Peters proved them right.

With a dominant win, the Indians moved up a spot in the Pennsylvania rankings. Next up is a road date with No. 12 Upper Saint Clair.

5. Manheim Township (+2)

Manheim Township dominated as well and moved up two spots in the Pennsylvania rankings. The Blue Streaks shut out Hempfield 38-0 at home.

No ranked matchups are on the horizon so we’ll see how high this team can climb. Manheim is predicted to win by a lot of blowouts coming up.

6. Central Catholic (+3)

A 42-0 win for the Vikings bumped them up three spots in the Pennsylvania rankings. The next game is a big one though.

Next Friday night, Central Catholic hosts No. 7 Allegheny in a top 10 matchup in the state. Someone will move up and someone will move down!

7. North Allegheny (-1)

The Tigers actually dropped a spot despite a win this past weekend. They’ll have a chance to rectify that with a game against No. 6 Central Catholic next week though.

The No. 7 team in Pennsylvania beat Norwin 36-14 but the Massey Ratings had them winning 42-6. You can probably attribute that to the slight drop.

8. Malvern Prep (+3)

What a bounce back win for the Friars after last week’s loss to Roman Catholic. The latter actually dropped in the Pennsylvania rankings, so we’ll get into that in a second.

Malvern beat No. 1 Salesianum (D.E.) 27-3 and the blowout was surprising when looking at Massey Ratings. The Friars earned their way back into the top 10.

9. Roman Catholic (-6)

No shame in losing to No. 3 DeMatha Catholic (M.D.). But it was the way the Cahillite lost, 49-12.

DeMatha was the projected winner per Massey in the Delaware vs. Pennsylvania matchup. But it was supposed to be closer. Tough look for Roman Catholic, but the school is still in the top 10.

10. Freedom (-2)

Freedom dominated William Allen 56-16 to prove the Massey Ratings right. However, they dropped two spots in the Pennsylvania rankings.

They’ll get two ranked matchups in October though, so there’s opportunity for the Patriots to move back up. But also, other teams made serious moves pushing Freedom down two spots.
