Report: Infamous former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions lands high school coaching job
Former Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions, at the center of the impermissible scouting scandal that followed the Wolverines through the latter half of the 2023 season, has found a new coaching gig. Stalions is now the defensive coordinator at Detroit Mumford High School, according to The Detroit News.
Stalions lost his job at Michigan amidst the scandal and has apparently been out of football since. His role with Mumford is a volunteer coaching position.
Stalions, according to the News, had a prior relationship with Mumford head coach William McMichael. McMichael is the father of former Michigan enrollee Jeremiah Beasley — who has since transferred to Missouri after the departure of Jim Harbaugh — and got to know Stalions when the Wolverines were recruiting his son.
“He’s great with the kids, has an outstanding football mind and we’re learning a lot — not just the kids, but the coaching staff,” McMichael said to The News. “He’s a great addition to what we’re doing. He can help prepare the kids for college. They are learning the lingo, how they practice college and how they break down film, so it gives the kids an advantage.”
McMichael also shared with the News that he’s not concerned about whatever NCAA punishment Stalions might face.
Michigan is currently awaiting a formal Notice of Allegations (NOA) from the NCAA regarding Stalions’ scheme to advance scout future Michigan opponents in efforts to steal their play signs. Sign stealing, broadly, is allowed in college football but advanced scouting is strictly prohibited by NCAA rules. It is unrelated from the recent punishment the NCAA handed down that included extensive sanctions for Harbaugh, which stemmed most famously from the breakfast cheeseburger he ordered while meeting with recruits during a dead period.

“I’m not worried about it,” McMichael said. “What happened with the NCAA doesn’t concern us here at Mumford. He comes here every day and gives 120%, and the kids all love him and we’re all learning from him.”
Mumford’s football program is coming off two-straight 1-8 seasons and is seeking to post a winning record for the first time since 2019.
And for the pop culture minded, the Mumford High School that Stalions is now coaching at is the same Mumford that graced the gray T-shirt worn by Eddie Murphy, starring as Detroit police detective Axel Foley in the 1980s-era film “Beverly Hills Cops.”
But for now, Stalions is the one waiting on an investigation to wrap up as he embarks in this new role.
