Three California high school football programs became recipients of the San Francisco 49ers’ donation of workout and football training equipment. Through the team’s foundation, the Niners donated over $20,000 worth of equipment to Kathleen MacDonald, Wilcox, and Santa Clara High.

This initiative is part of the 49ers PREP, which aims to inspire Bay Area youth to have active lifestyles and become community leaders.

“It’s really special that the 49ers are able to give back to the local high schools and to donate equipment that really helps out our kids,” Kathleen MacDonald head coach Burt Codera said. “We struggle with budgets and having all the equipment that we need. So, when they’re able to give back and donate, it just really benefits the kids, it helps out the program.”

Codera added that some of the equipment donated to these California high school football teams includes lineman chutes, hop over bags, and a two-man LEV Sled.

Meanwhile, Santa Clara High football coach and athletic director Nelson Gifford expressed that the donation links them to their idols. Likewise, they can delegate the budget needed for that equipment for other expenses.

“It means a lot to have it from the 49ers. It’s professional-level equipment. The kids gotta be inspired to know their heroes worked and developed on the same equipment,” Gifford said. “But from a head coach perspective, from an administrator perspective, every dollar counts. Now, this is money that can be spent on officials, on bussing, on uniforms.”

The donations could help these high school students train better for football, hoping to improve their records. Kathleen MacDonald and Santa Clara High finished their season with 4-6 records. However, the Condor won four of their last six games while the Bruins won three of their last four. Meanwhile, Wilcox went 11-3 this season and reached the Regional Finals of the CIF Division 2-A state championship.

In addition to donating football and workout equipment, 49ers PREP also conducts camps for California high school football students. They also facilitate tournaments and interactions between high school athletes and 49ers players.
