Tennessee High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams
On3.com

The second weekend of high school football in Tennessee kicked off last week. Still, even with another slate of results in, not much changed in the latest update to the Top-25 across the state.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

Some movement shifted the exact order within the Top-10 and the 25 total slots. Now, to start the month of September, this is where they stand in the latest Tennessee On3 Massey Ratings Top-25.

1. Oakland Patriots

Previous Ranking: 2
The Oakland Patriots moved into the No. 1 spot following a 52-48 thriller in Texas over Anna, the reigning 4A champions from The Lone Star State. It was an offensive shootout down south with Oakland rushing for 473 yards led by Tamari Hill (202 yards, four touchdowns) and Craig Tutt (194 yards, two touchdowns). That helped lead a comeback from down 15 with the Patriots nearly doubling up the Coyotes in the second half. Oakland will return home now with their homefield opener later this week against Haywood.

2. Baylor School

Previous Ranking: 1
The Baylor School dropped the one slot despite winning their second game of the fall at 42-7 over Gray Collegiate from South Carolina. The Red Raider offense scored six touchdowns with four in passing from QB Briggs Cherry to WRs Joakim Dodson and Cam Sparks while also getting two more from RB Shekai Mills-Knight. The defense did their work too with a second-half shutout. Baylor will now get the full week off before hosting Coconut Creek from out of Florida.

3. Christ Presbyterian Academy

Previous Ranking: 4
Christ Presbyterian Academy won a Top-30 meeting in Nashville of two reigning state champions with a 21-15 victory over Pearl-Cohn in the John Merritt Classic. After a 21-0 start, the Firebirds did make it interesting late in the second half. However, RB Rawls Patterson’s two scores were enough to prevail and move the Lions up to No. 3. CPA will take the field next against Pope John Paul II.

4. Houston

Previous Ranking: 6
Houston cracked into the top-five following a 38-21 win over DeSoto Central in Mississippi. QB Chandler Day, who recently committed to play collegiate baseball at Tennessee, scored three total touchdowns, while RB Marcelles Davis put up two more. That got the Mustangs another win and now sets up a top-five, crosstown meeting against the next team in the ranking.

5. Germantown

Previous Ranking: 10
Germantown also leaped into the top-five after their 21-14 win over South Panola out of Mississippi. The Red Devils overcame an early deficit and delays due to weather in the area to earn the seven-point win over the Tigers. Now, again, they will meet Houston next week in a matchup between two teams across Route 72 in Memphis.

6. McCallie School

Previous Ranking: 3
The McCallie School dropped out of the top-five with a 27-23 loss to Gadsden County from Havana, Florida. The Blue Tornadoes dug themselves out of a 20-3 hole to take a fourth-quarter led with RB Keylan Syam finishing with 135 yards and two scores. However, the Jags scored the winning touchdown with just over a minute to go. McCallie looks to get back in the win column on Saturday when they host Oakridge from California.
