Tennessee High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams
On3.com

With high school football heading into October, Tennessee once again didn’t see much movement within On3’s Massey Ratings.

The Top-10 included all of the same teams as last week with only two shifts rounding out the top-five and top-ten. As for the Top-25, only one new team made the ranking with the movement taking place only at No. 25. A single team saw a change greater than five spots with most seeing a trend up or down of only a few slots.

Now, four matchups in the Top-25 highlight the schedule this week to start off October. That includes a game between the No. 1 and No. 4 teams in the state over in Chattanooga on Friday.

Here’s how On3’s Massey Ratings have Tennessee ranked as of today coming out of the month of September.

1. Baylor School

Previous Ranking: 1
Although low-scoring overall, Baylor School earned the biggest win of the weekend at 7-6 over Brentwood Academy for a Top-10 road win. The Red Raiders found one extra point with their efforts in the run game from Shekai Mills-Knight and David Gabriel-Georges while their defense held the Eagles to just a pair of field goals. That kept them at No. 1 overall going into another top-rated matchup this week when they host McCallie School.

2. Oakland

Previous Ranking: 2
After a close call in a one-point game the week prior, Oakland got back to it with a 60-0 blowout over Rockvale. Daune Morris returned from injury to score three touchdowns in the opening quarter while Craig Tutt had three scores of his own on the night. Their defense also had their second shutout of the season. The Patriots remained at No. 2 as such with their next two games having a win probability of 100%, including their upcoming one this week against Siegel.

3. Christ Presbyterian Academy

Previous Ranking: 3
Christ Presbyterian Academy stayed in the top-three as well with a 49-14 victory over Goodpasture on Friday. They’ll now play two contests consecutively with a win probability of 99% in favor of them starting with The Webb School later this week.

4. McCallie School

Previous Ranking: 5
A week after a 32-point victory in the Top-10, McCallie School had another ranked win at 13-0 over Montgomery Bell Academy in the Top-25. Keylan Syam scored the only touchdown of the game in the opening quarter with a pair of kicks creating the final margin for the Blue Tornados. They’ll now be part of that top-five matchup in Tennessee later this week when they go to play No. 1 Baylor School.

5. Ensworth

Previous Ranking: 4
Despite falling a spot, Ensworth remained in the top-five with a 42-3 win at Memphis University School. They scored 21 in each half while also holding their opponent to just a field goal on the road. The Tigers will now play a pair of ranked teams, including an out-of-state one this week with First Baptist Academy (FL).

6. Maryville

Previous Ranking: 6
Following a pair of ranked matchups away, Maryville returned home to get a 49-7 victory over Hardin Valley Academy this weekend. Weather caused them to reschedule for the following morning but that didn’t stop them as their homecoming game was nearly a shutout before finishing as a 42-point victory. The Rebels will now face three Top-30 opponents in a row with Bearden being the first of those this week.

7. Ravenwood

Previous Ranking: 7
Ravenwood posted their second consecutive shutout with a 37-0 win over Independence. Homecoming was a wet one for the Raptors due to weather as they had just a safety in the first quarter and then nine by halftime. Still, they’d go on to score 28 in the second half to build that final margin over the Eagles. They’ll now be heavily favored in two more district games, including at Summit this week, before two top-rated matchups.

8. Collierville

Previous Ranking: 10
Despite being the higher-rated of the two, Collierville was not predicted to win this past week in a rivalry game within the Top-15. Still, the Dragons overcame that and the in-game conditions to win at 15-12 over Germantown on the road. Two touchdowns from Grant Troutman to Luke Roeder were enough to hold off a second-half comeback by the Red Devils in the end. White Station and Cordova will be their next two opponents as they’re very favored to take both before another ranked away matchup.

9. Houston

Previous Ranking: 8
Houston did suffer their second consecutive loss this past week with a 35-13 defeat at Tupelo (MS). Still, with both being against ranked opposition, especially the Golden Wave as a top-three team in their state, the Mustangs only dropped a spot to No. 8. Their next opportunity to get back in the win column will be on the road again this week at Bartlett.

10. Brentwood Academy

Previous Ranking: 9
Another team that saw just a one-slot slide after a game against top-rated competition is Brentwood Academy. The Eagles lost consecutive games against Top-10 opponents with a 32-point loss at McCallie School and then a one-point defeat to Baylor School to now be just 3-3 overall this fall. They’ll now try to get back over .500 with a three-game stretch in October starting with Innovation Academy.
