Tennessee High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - September 9
Although updated following the latest week of high school football, On3’s Massey Ratings saw little change within the state of Tennessee, especially in the Top-10.
Within the Top-25, only one swap was made out and then in of the rankings. Beyond that, just four teams saw a shift up or down of more than five spots. That left four teams, including the top two, exactly where they were the week prior while nine teams, specifically in the upper half, moved just a single spot in either direction.

Here’s how the Massey Ratings have the state set up as of the latest on September 9th:
1. Oakland
Previous Ranking: 1
Oakland returned to the state and kicked off at their home field for the first time this fall on Friday in a 49-6 win over Haywood. After a pick-six from their defense and a punt return score from their special teams in the opening quarter, the offense got going the rest of the way behind four passing touchdowns from Kyler Creasy. The Patriots continue a stretch from home on their schedule against Antioch this week for their homecoming.
2. Baylor School
Previous Ranking: 2
The Baylor School also maintained their spot through an undefeated start following a 49-21 win over Coconut Creek (FL). The Red Raiders’ offense dominated with seven total touchdowns with four on the ground, three from David Gabriel Georges and one from Shekai Mills-Knight, along with three through the air from Briggs Cherry. They’ll now make the trip from Chattanooga to Nashville for a Top-12 matchup at Lipscomb Academy.
3. Houston
Previous Ranking: 4
In a Top-10 matchup just outside of Memphis, Houston knocked off Germantown on the road by a close score of 36-30 to move up a spot to No. 3. QB Chandler Day won the night with 271 yards and three touchdowns with his arm along with 93 yards on the ground plus the game-sealing rushing score with under a minute to go. The Mustangs will now return home for a game against Cordova this week
4. Christ Presbyterian Academy
Previous Ranking: 3
After a pair of one-score wins over Brentwood Academy and Pearl-Cohn to start, CPA got a blowout on their schedule with a 42-9 win over Pope John Paul II to end last week. That now sets up a Top-15 matchup in Nashville between Christ Presbyterian Academy and Montgomery Bell Academy that’ll be hosted by the Big Red.
5. McCallie School
Previous Ranking: 6
The McCallie School moved back into the top-five after a 38-16 win over Oakridge (CA) over the weekend. RB Keylan Syam scored three touchdowns in the opening quarter to open it up immediately for the Blue Tornadoes in the 22-point victory. That got them back in the win column ahead of their next game against Memphis University School.
6. Ensworth
Previous Ranking: 7
Ensworth pitched a shutout in their game with a 48-0 victory over Osceola (AR). That now sets them up for a Top-20 meeting on the road against Knoxville Catholic later this week with the probability in favor of the Tigers.

7. Maryville
Previous Ranking: 8
Four games have come and four games have gone for Maryville with every one of them being a shutout so far. That includes the latest 38-0 score for them over Bradley Central to bring their second total up to 136-0. However, their opponent for this week is a significant step up with them playing on the road against Knoxville West in a Top-25 matchup.
8. Ravenwood
Previous Ranking: 9
Ravenwood is the fourth consecutive team to make a one-spot move upward following their 14-7 win over Blackman. It was a far lower-scoring game than expected with a rushing score from Femi Babalola along with 143 total yards on the night as the difference in the road victory over the Blaze. The Raptors will return home now for a game against Smyrna.
9. Germantown
Previous Ranking: 5
Germantown fell from the top-five but maintained their standing in the Top-10 as the loser of that game between them and Houston. It doesn’t get any easier this week for the Red Devils in a third consecutive ranked, Top-25 matchup this week against Riverdale, which fell from the Top-10 themselves after their 7-0 loss to Beech.
10. Brentwood Academy
Previous Ranking: 11
After an opening loss to CPA, Brentwood Academy has returned to their preseason ranking at No. 10. This comes after a 23-13 win over Christian Brothers. The Eagles will now host a Top-20 game later this week when Father Ryan comes two exits south, which will also serve as a 50-year reunion for their first state championship team back in 1974.
