Texas High School Football Games of the Week: Oct 3-5

Another huge weekend of Texas high school football is on tap, with a trio of top-25 matchups set to go down over the next few days.

As teams head to the back halves of their schedules, these games become even more crucial for district playoff seeding — and ultimately their run toward the state playoffs.

Below are the four key matchups to watch in the Lone Star State this weekend:

#2 Atascocita @ #7 Summer Creek – Friday, Oct. 4
Atascocita blew past a previously Texas-ranked C.E. King team 54-7 on Thursday night behind a massive performance from running back Tory Blaylock. The Oklahoma-bound star rushed for more than 200 yards and notched six total touchdowns in the rout. A top-10 road matchup with Summer Creek now awaits them on Friday night.The Bulldogs bulldozed their first three opponents this season, beating Shadow Creek, Lamar and Spring by a combined score of 156-0. After a bye last weekend, they continued their shutout streak by beating Channelview 59-0. Their biggest test of the year by far comes this weekend.

#16 Coppell @ #11 Guyer – Friday, Oct. 4
The Wildcats come in 3-1 and riding high after a 44-36 win over previously undefeated Flower Mound. Their offense has had no trouble early in the year, averaging 36.3 points per game, but their defense has struggled to slow down opponents, allowing 36 to Flower Mound, 49 to North Crowley and 30 to Aledo in their season opener. They will be tested by a Coppell squad who comes in 4-0 after dropping 49 points on Hebron last week and 72 on Bowie in September.

#21 Ryan @ #12 Aledo – Friday, Oct. 4
Ryan has been one of the state’s biggest rankings risers through five weeks, rocketing up to No. 21 after starting the season outside the top 25. They’ve outscored their past two opponents 119-23, but will have a different beast on their hands when they head to face Aledo. The Bearcats lost a heartbreaker in their season-opener against Guyer, but have reeled off four straight wins, including their last three victories, which have come by an average of 61 points.

#20 Willis @ College Park – Friday, Oct. 4
After losing superstar quarterback DJ Lagway to graduation, it seemed obvious that Willis would take a step back in 2024. That hasn’t been the case at all, as the Wildkats sit at 5-0 and are now inside the top-25. After upsetting The Woodlands 45-42 two weeks, they took winless Cleveland to the woodshed 77-0. College Park could present their toughest game in the rest of the regular season though, and the Cavaliers’ offense has proven they can put up some points themselves.
