Texas High School Football Games of the Week: September 5-7
High school football season is underway in Texas, with hundreds of teams kicking off their 2024 seasons last week with one goal in mind: holding a state championship trophy in December at AT&T Stadium.
Week 1 featured a number of pivotal games that could have major impacts come playoff time, including a handful of matchups between top-25 teams in the state rankings. Week 2 is no slouch either, with a pair of top-10 showdowns, along with three other games involving teams ranked in the top 20 in the Lone Star State.
Below are the key matchups to watch this weekend:

#18 Byron Nelson vs. #19 Lewisville — Thursday, Sept. 5
After surviving a wild 48-46 thriller against Frenship, Byron Nelson gets another major test against Lewisville, led by five-star offensive tackle and Oklahoma verbal Michael Fasusi. The Fighting Farmers are coming off a 51-7 blitzing of Mansfield Summit and also feature Oregon State safety commit Zephen Walker.
#1 Duncanville @ South Oak Cliff — Friday, Sept. 6
The Panthers were idle in Week 1 and will travel to face South Oak Cliff — who lost 38-0 to North Shore over the weekend. They have won back-to-back state titles for the first time in school history and will be top candidates to add another trophy to the mantle this season. Oregon receiver commit Dakorien Moore is the top WR prospect in the nation, while Alabama QB commit Keelon Russell is the No. 3 signal-caller in the senior class. SOC, led by Baylor four-star EDGE commit Kamauryn Morgan and a handful of other Power 4 prospects, will be looking to pull of a major upset.

#9 North Crowley @ #2 DeSoto — Friday, Sept. 6
After going undefeated in 2023 and also claiming a second consecutive state title, DeSoto manhanded Creekside (Ga.) — one of the top teams in the Peach State — 70-0 last weekend. The game, which was touted as one of the biggest games in the country to watch this week, got out of hand early. The Eagles led 41-0 after the first quarter and 63-0 by the time the fourth quarter rolled around. For North Crowley, Week 1 featured a tilt with Lancaster, one which they held on to win 29-21. The next two weeks will be among the toughest any team in the state faces DeSoto followed by a home tilt with No. 5 Guyer the following week.
#16 Cedar Hill @ #8 Allen — Friday, Sept. 6
The Eagles made quick work of Midland Legacy over the weekend, routing them to the tune of 61-0 victory. The schedule will get much tougher in a hurry though as No. 16 Cedar Hill comes in for another huge top-25 showdown. The Longhorns are led by brothers and Texas commits Jordan Coleman, Devin Coleman and Isaiah Coleman, and they’re coming off a commanding 40-7 win over Midlothian.
#7 Atascocita @ #10 Katy — Friday, Sept. 6
Atascocita has three Texas top-10 teams on its 2024 regular season schedule in Katy, Austin Westlake and Houston North Shore. They opened the season Thursday night with a showdown against Lamar, where they raced to 28-0 halftime lead en route to a 35-7 victory. Now they’ll get Katy with an offensive line is led by a pair of Power 4 commits in future North Carolina interior offensive lineman Byron Nelson and Texas Tech IOL commit Patrick McMath.
