High school football season in Texas is underway, with hundreds of games taking place across the Lone Star State over the weekend.

That included some major matchups featuring teams ranked among the state’s top 25 programs to start the year — headlined by a top-10 Dallas-area showdown. And now that the dust has settled, there’s been some shakeup across the rankings, which can be found below:

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory. According to the model — four teams from Alabama rank inside the nationwide top 100.

1. Duncanville

Previous: No. 1
The Panthers were idle in Week 1 and will travel to face South Oak Cliff — who lost 38-0 to North Shore over the weekend. They have won back-to-back state titles for the first time in school history and will be top candidates to add another trophy to the mantle this season. Oregon receiver commit Dakorien Moore is the top WR prospect in the nation, while Alabama QB commit Keelon Russell is the No. 3 signal-caller in the senior class.

2. DeSoto

Previous: No. 2
After going undefeated in 2023 and also claiming a second consecutive state title, DeSoto manhanded Creekside (Ga.) — one of the top teams in the Peach State — 70-0 over the weekend. The game, which was touted as one of the biggest games in the country to watch this week, got out of hand early. The Eagles led 41-0 after the first quarter and 63-0 by the time the fourth quarter rolled around. Transfer quarterback and Virginia Tech commit Kelden Ryan totaled more than 300 yards combined on the ground and through the air, accounting for four total touchdowns. Next up is a showdown with top-10 foe North Crowley.

3. Southlake Carroll

Previous: No. 3
Southlake Carroll has long been a football powerhouse in Texas, and the Dragons have their eyes set on returning to the top of the heap in 2024. They made relatively easy work of Midland over the weekend in a 48-24 romp. They’ll head to Hebron this week, looking to make it a 2-0 start before what should be a great battle with Byron Nelson.

4. North Shore

Previous: No. 4
The 5A Division II and 6A Division I runners-up from 2023 met over the weekend in Houston, and North Shore dominated South Oak Cliff 38-0. Devin Sanchez, the No. 1-ranked cornerback in the country headed to Ohio State, led a defense that didn’t allow a single point and he himself wasn’t targeted once. The Mustangs will head to face Crowley this weekend before a tilt with top-25 Westfield on September 13.

5. Guyer

Previous: No. 7 (+2)
In what was one of the biggest high school games across the country this weekend, Guyer upended Aledo, the defending 5A Division I champions, 35-30 in an instant classic. Four-star quarterback Kevin Sperry, who played his high school ball in Oklahoma last season for Carl Albert, completed just 11 of his 26 attempts. But the Wildcats ran for nearly 8 yards per carry, scored on a fumble recovery return for a touchdown and ran a kick back for a score to ultimately pull out the victory.

6. Westlake

Previous: No. 9 (+3)
Austin Westlake went on a stellar 14-game run in 2023 before its season was cut short by Houston North Shore in a 23-14 loss in the playoffs. Their tour of vengeance started on Thursday against Prosper, who came into the game as top-15 preseason team. The Chaparrals had no problems dismantling them 35-14. Waiting in Week 2 is a game against San Benito before they take on Atascocita on September 13 in a massive showdown.

7. Atascocita

Previous: No. 5 (-2)
Atascocita has three Texas top-10 teams on its 2024 regular season schedule in Katy, Austin Westlake and Houston North Shore, but before that they have business to take care of if those games are going to mean much come playoff time. They opened the season Thursday night with a showdown against Lamar, where they raced to 28-0 halftime lead en route to a 35-7 victory. The Eagles offense was buoyed by a three-touchdown performance from running back and Oklahoma commit Tory Blaylock.

8. Allen

Previous: No. 11 (+3)
The Eagles made quick work of Midland Legacy over the weekend, routing them to the tune of 61-0 victory. The schedule will get much tougher in a hurry though as No. 16 Cedar Hill comes in for another huge top-25 showdown.

9. North Crowley

Previous: No. 13 (+4)
The Panthers finished the 2023 season with a state semifinal berth and a 14-1 record, but have their sights set on getting all the way to Arlington this year. They boast one of the state’s top offensive lines, headlined by No. 3 2026 offensive tackle John Turntine and Missouri four-star commit Henry Fenuku. Week 1 featured a tilt with Lancaster, one which North Crowley held on to win 29-21. The next two weeks will be among the toughest any team in the state faces, with games at No. 2 DeSoto followed by a home tilt with No. 5 Guyer the following week.

10. Katy

Previous: No. 10
Katy ended last season’s campaign on a heartwrenching note with an overtime loss to Cypress Cy-Fair. Now, they’ll look to bounce back in 2024 with a schedule that includes Texas top-10 team Humble Atascocita. The Tigers’ offensive line is led by a pair of Power 4 commits in future North Carolina interior offensive lineman Byron Nelson and Texas Tech IOL commit Patrick McMath.
