Thompson (Ala.) football to defend state title against substantial schedule this fall

The 2024 high school football season in Alabama saw plenty of twists and turns, but it was Alabaster Thompson that came out on top as 7A state champions.
The Warriors went 11-3 and finished as the top-ranked team in the state, as well as the No. 35 team in the nation, according to the On3 Composite Rankings. Expectations are now high for Thompson once again this fall.
Earlier this month, the Warriors announced the road ahead for the 2025 season. The upcoming schedule will be tough for touted head coach Mark Freeman and Co.
On Aug. 21, Thompson will open its season at home against Carver-Montgomery, which finished as the No. 14 team in the state last season. The Wolverines are one of six teams who finished in the state top-25 in 2024 who are on the Thompson docket this fall.
A monumental road game will come in week two as the Warriors head to Grayson (Ga.). The two teams opened the 2024 season against each other, with the Rams finding a gritty 15-14 win on the road. Thompson will now try and return to the favor in the Peach State. Grayson finished as the No. 7 team nationally last year.

Other highlights include a gritty three-game stretch against Vestavia Hills, Clay-Chalkville and Hewitt-Trussville, with the latter two coming on the road. All three programs were top-15 teams in the state last season. Clay-Chalkville defeated Thompson 14-13 last September.
Four of Thompson’s final five regular season games will come on the road. The final home game will come on Oct. 10 against Tuscaloosa Hillcrest. It’ll then head to Hoover and Prattville to close things out. Hoover accounted for Thompson’s final loss of the season last year.

The Warriors do have a blue-chip quarterback coming back, however, as Trent Seaborn returns for his junior campaign.
