It was billed as a monumental showdown as Mater Dei, the nation’s best high school football team, faced fellow top ten squad St. John Bosco. However, it ended as a one-sided affair as the home team Monarchs lorded over the Braves, 59-14. It’s the most points they’ve scored against their Trinity League rival since 1966.

Even without injured five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., the Monarchs established a 45-0 halftime lead and never looked back. They scored 34 second-quarter points, with Jordon Davison starting the scoring barrage with a two-yard touchdown run that stretched Mater Dei’s advantage to 17-0.

After which, Dash Beierly completed a 40-yard touchdown sprint after C.J. Lavender intercepted Koa Maulau’ulu’s throw. Then, Aaryn Washington added a 45-yard interception touchdown return, making it 31-0. Beierly added touchdown throws to Gavin Honore and Semi Taulanga before halftime, pulling them closer to their tenth victory against St. John Bosco since 2016.

Beierly, the senior quarterback who committed to Washington, finished with four touchdown throws. He leads an elite high school football offensive unit featuring four-star prospects like Davison (Oregon), Marcus Harris (Oklahoma), Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, and Kodi Greene (Oregon).

Meanwhile, Mater Dei’s defense has four-star athletes in cornerback Chuck McDonald (Alabama), defensive back Daryus Dixson (Oregon), defensive lineman Tomuhini Topui (Oregon), and linebackers Nasir Wyatt (Oregon) and Abduall Sanders (Alabama).

Conversely, St. John Bosco gave Malau’ulu the keys to the offense after Matai Fuiava transferred to Kahuku (Hi.). He’s teaming up with four-star sensations Madden Williams, WR Daniel Odom, Joshua Holland (USC), and edge rusher Epi Sitanilei (UCLA).

Mater Dei improved to 8-0 and will host Orange Lutheran on Nov. 1. Meanwhile, St. John Bosco dropped to 8-1 and is fourth in the national rankings based on On3 Massey Ratings. The Braves will try to bounce back against J. Serra Catholic on the same day.
