Top-Ranked Prospect Aaliyah Chavez Completes Fourth 1,000-Point Season
Aaliyah Chavez of the Monterey Plainsmen bolstered her credentials by completing her fourth 1,000-point season in Texas girls’ basketball. The point guard from Lubbock surpassed that mark in her senior year in the first quarter of their game against Coronado.
Chavez entered the game with 994 points and quickly scored the needed points to reach 1,000. She finished with 50 points in their lopsided 103-42 victory, which improved their record to 25-4. That’s the 12th time this season wherein Chavez scored at least 40 points and second with at least 50 points. Meanwhile, her career high is 57 points, established in their victory over Plano last season.
The On3 Industry Ranking’s top-ranked prospect has been sensational for Monterey, averaging 35.8 points and 3.9 assists per game. Likewise, she’s also averaging 9.1 rebounds per game despite being a guard. Those numbers are slightly higher than her averages in her junior year (35.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists).
After the victory over Coronado, Aaliyah Chavez has 4,389 points in high school basketball. She barely reached the thousand-point mark in her first year, finishing with 1,001 points. Chavez collected 1,020 points as a sophomore and 1,324 in her junior year. These numbers made her Monterey’s all-time leading scorer, with more games left to increase her record.

Likewise, Chavez is also the top-ranked prospect in Texas and her playing position. Last season, she was the Texas Girls Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year after breaking her school’s single-season record for points and converting the most three-point shots in a game.
“She’s an elite basketball player known for her exceptional skills and undeniable talent on the court, with a passion for the game and drive to succeed. Aaliyah has made a name for herself in the world of basketball,” Lubbock ISD Athletic Director Mike Meeks said.
These achievements make Aaliyah Chavez a target among some of the nation’s top women’s basketball programs. While she remains uncommitted to a school, she has received offers from Oklahoma, UCLA, Texas Tech, LSU, and Texas.
