Evans cornerback Christian Scott (14) and Effingham wide receiver Trayvis Hunter (12) jump for the ball during the Evans and Effingham County football game at Evans High School on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024. This week marks the return of high school football after Hurricane Helene. Effingham County defeated Evans with a score of 35-7.

Colorado two-way athlete Travis Hunter is widely considered to be one of the best players in college football this season. The former No. 2 overall prospect in his recruiting class, Hunter has emerged as both an elite receiver and defensive back for the Buffaloes.

While Hunter is putting on a show at the FBS level, his younger brother is having a breakout season of his own in high school.

Springfield (Ga.) Effingham County sophomore Trayvis Hunter has accounted for 496 receiving yards and six touchdowns as the Rebels hit postseason play. According to Maxpreps, Hunter has put up the bulk of his stats in the last four games of the regular season — catching 19 passes for 331 yards and five touchdowns.

Effingham County has a 6-4 record and is the No. 131 high school football team in Georgia, according to the On3 Massey Ratings.

This season at Colorado, Trayvis’ older brother, Travis, has been electric on both sides of the ball. Travis has racked up 856 yards and nine touchdowns on offense. On defense, he has accounted for two interceptions, a forced fumble and seven pass breakups.

Hunter is one of the Heisman Trophy frontrunners as we progress through the month of November.

Last week, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders made a case for Hunter’s Heisman campaign.

“Nobody has ever done what he’s done,” Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders said on the “Colorado Football Coaches Show” last week. “Let’s just get that straight. If the award is for the best player, I think that is him. Now, this other kid is phenomenal, he’s the best running back. It’s a couple guys putting up those types of numbers, they just not giving the other guys any love. But he’s definitely one of the best, if not the best, running back.

“But what Travis is doing, hasn’t been done. It really hasn’t.”
