High School Football Scores: Corner Canyon scores 70 points in season-opening victory
Beginning the 2024 season as the No. 11 team in the nation, Corner Canyon has high aspirations as it seeks its fifth Utah state title in the last seven seasons.
It would’ve been easy for the Chargers to look ahead to next week’s titanic clash against national powerhouse IMG Academy (Fla.) and look past American Fork (Utah), a team that hasn’t won a game in the series since 2015, on Friday night.
Instead, Corner Canyon locked in and stamped itself as an elite offense, scoring at will en route to a 70-42 victory to kick off the season. The Chargers (1-0) scored three touchdowns in their first four plays, setting the tone for what resulted in a long evening for the American Fork (0-1) defense.
Running back Bryton Brady finished with four touchdowns, including a 75-yard dash to the end zone on the first play from scrimmage. Receiver Chryshaun Lee collected an 80-yard punt return TD to go with a trio of receiving scores that tallied over 120 yards.
Junior four-star quarterback Helaman Casuga looked the part as Corner Canyon’s replacement for now Utah QB Isaac Wilson, throwing for 482 yards and six touchdowns, headlined by an 80-yard bomb to senior four-star wideout Jerome Myles.

Eyes turn to showdown against IMG Academy next week
With the first test passed, the Chargers will now gear up for what will be the toughest game of their season. IMG Academy will open its season by traveling to the Beehive State to take on Corner Canyon on Friday, Aug. 23.
The Ascenders check in just ahead of the Chargers in the On3 Massey Ratings at No. 9 nationally and are also the preseason No. 1 program in the state of Florida. The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.
No program in the nation has more blue-chip prospects than IMG, but Corner Canyon is familiar with taking on top talent. The Chargers’ lone loss in 2023 came during the second week of the season against Bishop Gorman (Nev.), another top-10 national program.
