Things have shaken up in the Wisconsin On3 Massey Ratings Top 25 list as of Oct. 7. Four of the top ten teams have switched places while a new team entered the rankings.

Meanwhile, the competition for this year’s Wisconsin high school football season has become highly competitive, and only six of the top 25 teams remain undefeated. Here’s where the state’s best teams are after the first round of games in October.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Mukwonago

The Indians gained the top spot after dominating seventh-ranked Oconomowoc 28-6. Mason Radobicky led the way with 138 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and he caught another TD from Mason Kelley. That victory improved Mukwonago’s record to 6-1 before they face Waukesha West on the 11th.

2. New Richmond (+1)

The Tigers climb to the second spot in the Wisconsin high school football rankings after a 27-14 victory over Menomonie. Nick Stellrecht threw three touchdown passes, each to a different receiver. New Richmond remains undefeated after six games and will try to maintain their streak against Lincoln on Oct. 11.

3. Franklin (-1)

While the Sabers dropped a spot, they remain unbeaten after seven games. Their latest victory was a 55-7 domination of Kenosha Tremper, wherein quarterback Joey Kallay threw six touchdown passes. Ben Verges and Ben Hefter received two scoring throws each, while Robert Beglinger had 98 rushing yards and a TD. Meanwhile, Franklin’s defense had three sacks and 12 tackles for losses versus the Trojans. With the Sabers feeling confident, Indian Trail, their upcoming opponent, is in trouble.

4. Kimberly

The former top team in Wisconsin dropped to the fourth spot after a narrow loss to Neenah. Despite suffering their first loss of the season, there are still positives in that game, starting with Braedon Ellefson completing a passing touchdown and rushing for two more scores. Carter Howard also added 107 receiving yards and a touchdown. Kimberly can bounce back against Kaukauna in another challenging matchup.

5. Marquette University

The Hilltoppers made light work of Brookfield Central 52-7, thanks to their balanced offensive attack, which led to four players scoring touchdowns. Of that total, Peyton Roby-Brown had a receiving touchdown and another score off a kick return. Marquette will try to extend its winning streak to seven games as it faces 14th-ranked Hamilton on Oct. 11.

6. Arrowhead

The Warhawks recovered from their loss to Oconomowoc by handily defeating Waukesha West 46-7. Jacob Siner had two rushing touchdowns, while Ben Prescher, Harper Hughes, and Jake Budde each had a receiving TD. Meanwhile, Arrowhead’s defense completed five sacks and an interception against the Wolverines. The Warhawks will go for another winning streak against Brookfield East on Friday.

7. Oconomowoc (+1)

The Racoons climbed one spot despite their first loss of the 2024 Wisconsin high school football season. They mustered only six points in their road game against top-ranked Mukwonago, courtesy of a touchdown pass from Austin Munzel to Emmett Bork. However, their schedule won’t get any easier as they face 15th-ranked Muskego on the 11th and Pewaukee a week later.

8. Waunakee (-1)

The Warriors are on a four-game winning streak after defeating Sun Prairie 21-17. However, while they escaped with a win, it’s their lowest output in six games. Conversely, Waunakee still has the state’s third-best offense, averaging 39.16 points per game. Waunakee can extend their streak to five games by beating DeForest on Friday.

9. Kaukauna

While it was a low-scoring affair, the Galloping Ghosts escaped with a 13-10 win over Appleton North. Kyle Kress scored both of Kaukauna’s touchdowns, giving them their fifth victory in six matches. Kaukauna will put their five-game winning streak on the line against fourth-ranked Kimberly on the 11th.

10. Neenah

The Rockets pulled off an upset win over Kimberly. Evan Vanevenhoven has three touchdown passes, while Grant Dean has 147 rushing yards and a touchdown. Their defense also contributed two interceptions off Kimberly quarterback Braedon Ellefson. Neenah will continue their season against Fond Du Lac on the 11th.
