As of Sept. 16, there was no movement in the top half of the Wisconsin On3 Massey Ratings Top 25 list. However, while teams 1 to 15 remained the same, there were some shakeups in the Wisconsin high school football rankings from the 16th to the 22nd spots.

While six teams each improved by one spot after another round of football games, another team went nosedive after dropping by six spots. Here’s how Wisconsin’s best high school clubs fared after their latest matches.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Kimberly

Previous: No. 1
The Papermakers maintained their undefeated record after a 42-7 victory over the Fond Du Lac Cardinals. Versatile quarterback Braedon Ellefson had one passing touchdown and two of five Kimberly rushing scores. Kegan Pleau led all running backs with 103 yards and a touchdown, while Reid Lindenberg, Brady Bell, and Mason Henschel had a touchdown each. Kimberly will defend their unblemished run against Appleton East on the 20th.

2. Mukwonago

Previous: No. 2
After a bitter one-point loss to Arrowhead on Sept. 6, the Indians bounced back with a 34-24 win against Muskego. Mukwonago’s ground game punished the Warrior defense as Mason Kelley tallied 159 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Meanwhile, Mason Radobicky added 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Jack Savasta also completed a 95-yard kickoff touchdown return for the Indians. Mukwonago can start another winning streak with a victory over Pewaukee on Sept. 20.

3. Franklin

Previous: No. 3
The Sabers completed their best performance (so far) this season by keeping the Racine Park Panthers off the scoreboard. Conversely, Franklin compiled 38 points, led by Joey Kallay’s 127 passing yards and two touchdowns. Robert Beglinger had another splendid performance, tallying 134 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Sabers hope to win more as they face Oak Creek, Bradford, and Tremper in their next three games.

4. Oconomowoc

Previous: No. 4
The Racoons are flying high to start the 2024 Wisconsin high school football season. They are now at 4-0 after a 28-7 win against Waukesha West. Oconomowoc pulled away to victory by scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half. Austin Munzel had a touchdown pass, while Andrew Mirek had a touchdown pass and two rushing touchdowns. Kashton Allen and Cole Schwefel each had a touchdown catch. A 5-0 record is at stake for the Racoons when they face Brookfield Central on Sept. 20.

5. Arrowhead

Previous: No. 5
The Warhawks have followed their defeat to Homestead with back-to-back victories against Mukwonago and Pewaukee. In Arrowhead’s latest win against the Pirates, Jacob Siner and Pres Bencz combined for 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Vance Holtz had a passing and a rushing touchdown, while Harper Hughes had 98 yards and a touchdown. A challenging proposition awaits Arrowhead as they encounter sixth-ranked Muskego on the 20th.

6. Muskego

Previous: No. 6
Despite their recent loss to second-ranked Mukwonago, the Warriors retained their place among the top ten teams in Wisconsin high school football. In that game against the Indians, Jackson Niemiec led the way with 96 rushing yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Nick Leto had 46 rushing yards, 60 receiving yards and a touchdown. Muskego is still ranked third on defense and sixth on offense despite falling to 3-1. However, they can return to the win column by defeating fifth-ranked Arrowhead in what could be a highly contested affair.

7. Marquette University

Previous: No. 7
The Hilltoppers are on a three-game winning streak after a 36-10 decision over Germantown. Tommy Novotny dominated the Warhawks with 104 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Will Grellinger had 89 passing yards and a touchdown. Scoring 109 points in the last three games improved Marquette’s offensive ranking to third. Displaying the same firepower against Menomonee Falls could translate to a 4-1 record.

8. Rice Lake

Previous: No. 8
The Warriors improved to 4-0 after a 36-19 victory over Menomonie. After a 14-13 halftime, Rice Lake secured the win via a 22-6 second half. Jacob Kunz paced the Warriors with 70 passing yards, 116 rushing yards, and two touchdowns. Lukas Peters added 145 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Connor Durand had a touchdown catch. Rice Lake’s 5-0 record is at stake as they face Chippewa Falls in four days.

9. Verona Area

Previous: No. 9
While the Wildcats scored only ten points against Vel Phillips Memorial, securing a 4-0 slate to begin their 2024 campaign was enough. More importantly, limiting opponents to 3.25 points per game makes them the fourth-best defensive team in Wisconsin high school football. Against the Spartans, Boden Brotzman scored the game’s only touchdown off a fumble recovery return to the end zone. Verona Area’s defense could propel them to another victory against LaFollette on Sept. 20.

10. Waunakee

Previous: No. 10
Waunakee’s top-ranked offense generated 48 points in their shutout victory against the Sun Prairie West Wolves. It’s the second time this season that they’ve held an opponent scoreless, the first of which was during their 2024 season opener against the La Crosse Central Riverhawks. The tenth-ranked Warriors could complete their first winning streak this year with a victory over Fort Atkinson on the 20th.
