2022 ACC Tournament Day 5 LIVE UPDATES: Scores, results, news
The Virginia Tech Hokies answered the bell early and often in a big way on Saturday night against the Duke Blue Devils in the 2022 ACC Tournament Championship Game. The Hokies remained scorching hot on the basketball floor and stunned the top-seeded Blue Devils 82-67. They used a combination of basketball saavy plays with an unrelenting will to hustle to the basketball for most of the game. They simply outhustled the Blue Devils to several loose balls in the second half and it paid off.
The win was the fourth win in four nights for the Hokies. It will no doubt go down as one of the biggest wins in Virginia Tech basketball history. Hunter Cattoor continued to show that he’s one of the nation’s best shooters and he was blistering hot all night long. He connected on 11-of-16 shots from the field, including 7-of-9 from three-point range. Catoor poured in a career-high 31 points for the Hokies and he was just one of many players on their roster that contributed in the upset.
Virginia Tech’s ACC Tournament Championship crown is the is the first in school history. The win is not only big for the Hokies because they’ve never done it before, but it means they’ve officially punched their tickets to the 2022 NCAA Tournament. They won’t need to wait until Sunday to learn they are officially in the big dance, because after tonight, they officially locked up the ACC’s automatic bid.
