2022 NCAA Tournament bracketology: March 6 projection
North Carolina delivered the most noteworthy result Saturday in crashing the Mike Krzyzewski party in Cameron Indoor Stadium, shocking the Blue Devils with an upset both schools will remember as long as this rivalry is played.
But there were several other results that significantly impacted potential seeds and berths in the NCAA tournament, especially toward the bottom of the at-large field. Indiana, BYU, Virginia Tech, Oregon, Florida and VCU suffered damaging losses that put their at-large hopes in various degrees of peril. On the other hand, Notre Dame, Xavier and Wyoming won to booster their chances of earning some of the final at-large slots. Murray State, which would have earned a bid regardless, secured the Ohio Valley’s automatic berth as well Saturday.
Today, Memphis has a terrific opportunity to strengthen its NCAA tournament hopes against Houston. Rutgers has a critical home game against Penn State. Michigan could go a long way to locking up an at-large berth if it can beat Ohio State. And SMU has a virtual must-win against Tulane. And if Loyola-Chicago can’t earn the MVC’s automatic berth today against Drake, it will be sweating it out on Selection Sunday.
Note: Asterisked teams that have clinched automatic bids. Teams projected to be conference champs are in bold type, with the conference listed. Teams are listed in order within each seed group.
