With the regular season complete, the potential full NCAA tournament at-large field is now starting to come into better focus.

Michigan and Memphis, in particular, and Rutgers and SMU, to a lesser extent, took important steps forward in hopes of earning at-large berths. Each would be advised to avoid a letdown in their respective league tournaments. But you’d still much rather be in the aforementioned group than in a group of other fringe teams that includes BYU, VCU, Indiana and Florida, all of which probably are on the outside looking in at the moment.

Tonight, the West Coast Conference semifinals in Las Vegas will showcase the league amid an especially strong season. The WCC is in sound position to receive three bids to the NCAAs, with potential top overall seed Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s, which is in line for a No. 5 or No. 6 seed, and San Francisco, which played itself off the tournament bubble with a WCC quarterfinal win over BYU.

Note: Asterisked teams have clinched automatic bids. Teams projected to be conference champs are in bold type, with the conference listed. Teams are listed in order within each seed group.
