2022 top safety Jacoby Mathews reaffirms February decision date
There were rumblings that Ponchatoula (La.) four-star safety Jacoby Mathews may announce his college decision this Sunday at the Under Armour All-American Game.
He shot down those rumors Wednesday night.
Mathews tweeted out, in all caps, “announcing in February” with the two exclamation points emoji.
This is the second time this month Mathews has tweeted out that he will be announcing his decision in February. He did so right before the opening of the early signing period.
Mathews is the No. 33 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the No. 1 safety in the country and the No. 2 player from the state of Louisiana.
He was once committed to LSU, and the Tigers are still in the running for his National Letter of Intent signature. But LSU faces stiff competition from Alabama, Florida, Texas, and Texas A&M.
The Gators are a recent addition to his recruiting search after Corey Raymond departed LSU for Gainesville, Fla. He will be going on an official visit in January.

But Texas A&M are the favorites for Jacoby Mathews, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, at 67.8%.
RPM was released to the public earlier this month. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.
It factors in machine learning, expert predictions, social sentiment, visits, and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.
Jacoby. Mathews was a late arrival to the Under Armour All-American festivities, but was dressed and participated in Thursday’s practice.
