Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson five-star cornerback Cormani McClain released a top five over the summer. But about three months later, he felt the need to provide an update.

McClain dropped a new top five Sunday on Twitter with the caption “The Ones That’s Showing The Most Love.”

Four of the teams are the same from the original top five: AlabamaFloridaMiami and Ohio State.

The newcomer to the group was BYU, which replaced struggling Florida State. McClain was in Provo, Utah, this weekend for the Cougars game against Idaho State.

Cormani McClain is the No. 1 cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class

McClain is the fifth-best player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 rates him slightly higher at No. 4 in the 2023 On300 rankings.

Both rankings have McClain as the top cornerback in the country. In fact, he is the only five-star corner according to both the Consensus and On3’s evaluators.

“Cormani McClain is an easy pick as the top cornerback prospect in the 2023 cycle at this point,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said when the original 2023 On3 rankings were released. “McClain has plus ball skills at both corner and receiver. He had nine picks in 2020 and showed the ability to locate, track and high-point the football in coverage. He scored on nearly one out of every three catches at receiver. Most top draft picks at corner star on both sides of the ball in high school, and McClain emphatically checks that box.”

About a month ago, McClain told On3’s Chad Simmons that Florida had taken the early lead in his recruitment.

“The vibe is chill, everyone is cool, and it feels like home to me,” McClain said. “I love how they treat me, they show me a lot of love, I get along well with the players and the coaches.”

Since then, the Gators have gone 0-3 and plummeted out of the top 25.
