The prestigious tournament is in its 12th year this season and on Wednesday evening, the tournament announced their bracket for their 2023 field on their website. This year’s field for the Battle 4 Atlantis will involve: Arkansas, Memphis, Michigan, North Carolina, Northern Iowa, Stanford, Texas Tech, and Villanova. The event takes place in a hotel ballroom in Paradise Island, Bahamas, one of the nicest resorts on the planet. The tournament is played in the Imperial Arena–which is a grand ballroom that is transformed into a truly unique basketball venue. All games will be nationally televised on ESPN.
The field for the 2023 Battle 4 Atlantis
Arkansas figures to be one of the higher ranked teams in the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Hogs have made back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament the past two years under head coach Eric Musselman. This year, they return plenty of talent, including four players that were rated as four-stars coming out of high school, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. They also went out and landed El Ellis via the transfer portal. He was a player who was one of the most explosive scoring guards in the ACC last year. Last season, he poured in 17.7 points per game and also dished out 4.4 assists per contest. He’s expected to be a dominant force yet again this year for the Hogs.
The Memphis Tigers were barely ousted by the FAU Owls last season in the first round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, 66-65. The Owls went on to make a magical run to the Final Four in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, their first Final Four appearance in school history.
The Tar Heels are certainly the team with the best basketball history in the field in the Battle 4 Atlantis. Their program has won the national title six times. They also made an appearance in the national championship game in 2022, where they lost to the Kansas Jayhawks. Although the ‘Heels have a very proud basketball history, they’ll be looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish in the 2022-2023 season, when they missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

North Carolina welcomes in the services of five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau, who was ranked as the No. 2 point guard in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He reclassified from 2024 to 2023 and will join the ‘Heels early. Two of the most dominant pieces back for UNC include shooting guard R.J. Davis and big man Armando Bacot. They’re two of the best players in the nation at their positions and the ‘Heels will look for their superstars to carry them yet again. UNC also added a very important piece, Jae’Lyn Withers via the transfer portal.
The Northern Iowa Panthers are a mid-major program that has proven to be dangerous at times over the years in the NCAA Tournament. They made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016.
Much like the North Carolina Tar Heels, the Michigan Wolverines are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2022-2023 campaign. They finished with an 18-16 overall record and were ousted in the second round of the NIT by the Vanderbilt Commodores. They also lost their superstar center, Hunter Dickinson, to the Kansas Jayhawks via the transfer portal this offseason. They’ll welcome in two players from the transfer portal that were rated as four-stars coming out of high school, Nimari Burnett and Tray Jackson.
Other teams in the field: Stanford, Texas Tech, and Villanova.
It should be an exciting tournament and college basketball fans can’t wait for the season to roll around. We’re only a few months away.
