With the regular season coming to a close soon, conference tournament pictures are starting to take shape. That includes the Big 12, which has been incredibly competitive all season long. Now, with help from PlayoffStatus.com, here is a look at what should be an excellent Big 12 Tournament, the schedule for that tournament, and different teams’ magic numbers.

Current standings

Here is a look at the current Big 12 standings:

  1. Kansas — 25-5 (13-4)
  2. Texas — 22-7 (11-5)
  3. Baylor — 22-8 (11-6)
  4. Kansas State — 22-7 (10-6)
  5. TCU — 19-10 (8-8)
  6. Iowa State — 17-12 (8-9)
  7. Oklahoma State — 16-14 (7-10)
  8. West Virginia — 17-13 (6-11)
  9. Texas Tech — 16-14 (5-12)
  10. Oklahoma — 14-15 (4-12)

At this point in the season, there are two Big 12 teams who still have a chance to finish first in the conference this regular season, Kansas and Texas. The Jayhawks, who currently hold a two-game lead, are the probable winner and won’t finish worse than second. For their part, the Longhorns could actually finish anywhere between first and fourth.

Kansas has a magic number of one, while Texas has a magic number of two to finish in first place. On Saturday, March 4th, the two will meet and play a second game. Kansas won their first thriller. Neither Baylor nor Kansas State controls their own destiny, but they could also finish as high as second.
