It’s March and the conference tournament pictures are starting to take shape. The Big 12 has been incredibly competitive all season long and is promising to have a great tournament. Now, with help from PlayoffStatus.com, here is a look at the schedule for that tournament, and different teams’ magic numbers.

Current standings

Here is a look at the current Big 12 standings:

  1. Kansas — 25-5 (13-4)
  2. Kansas State — 23-7 (11-6)
  3. Baylor — 22-8 (11-6)
  4. Texas — 22-8 (11-6)
  5. TCU — 20-10 (9-8)
  6. Iowa State — 17-12 (8-9)
  7. Oklahoma State — 16-14 (7-10)
  8. West Virginia — 17-13 (6-11)
  9. Texas Tech — 16-14 (5-12)
  10. Oklahoma — 14-16 (4-13)

On Wednesday, Texas dropped a close game to TCU. That loss took some of the excitement out of the final Saturday of the regular season, clinching the Big 12 regular season title for Kansas. That also created a three-way tie for second place. Due to tiebreakers, though, Kansas State has the best chance between Baylor, Texas, and Kansas State to take second. The Longhorns, meanwhile, fell from having a shot at first to most likely ending fourth.

Kansas State has a magic number of one for the two seed and the three seed. Texas still has a magic number of one for the three seed, but doesn’t control its own destiny to finish any better than that.
